Rashida is the younger daughter of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton, renowned record producer and musician. She has an old sister, Kidada Jones, and five of her father’s other half-siblings. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 25, 1976 and grew up in Bel Air.

The actor belongs to a family of mixed races and faiths. This allowed her to develop a rich cultural background. While her father had roots in Africa, her mother was a Jewish Ashkenazi. As a result, we raised Rashida and her sister by Jewish traditions. For her, the interracial family was a problem. She told an interviewer later that people still believed a black man and a white lady should not be a family even in the 1970s.

When she grew up, she was a “nerd, read a lot and go online to find the information she wanted. After going to bed, her father would find her hiding under the cover, reading a number of books, using a lamp. Soon she began to show artistic talent and learned to play the piano.

She attended ‘Hebrew School’ but stopped before her ‘bat mitzvah’ as she felt it wasn’t her place. After that, she went to the “Buckley School” in Los Angeles, an excellent institution which focused on finding and developing the skills of every student. Her next stop was ‘Harvard,’ where she studied philosophy and religion. In 2016, she was invited back to Harvard for an annual ‘Class Day Celebration’ speech. She noted that “Harvard in so many ways was such a transformative place for me.”

After an open letter was published in 1993 to Tupac Shakur, who had made some negative statements about the marriage of her parent. At the end of the day, they solved their differences and became friends. But the words of Tupac definitely affected her, especially as she once said that she was “not black enough” by so many. After graduating, she concentrated on music and participated in numerous projects, including music videos, backing up singing for “Maroon 5,” and film soundtracks. She even worked with Tupac Shakur.

Her acting career started in 1997, with a role in the ‘The Last Don’ series. Her first achievement in the field was the successful Boston Public drama, which gained her a huge fan base. It helped her also to gain her next big role in the popular series ‘The Office,’ ‘Karen.’

Rashida Jones also has a successful career as a writer. She has written a series of comic books titled ‘The State Frenemy.’ It became a film later, and she co-wrote the screenplay. In 2009 she also wrote the screenplay for ‘Celeste and Jesse Forever,’ which was made into a 2012 film. She has also contributed as author to an episode of “Black Mirror,” “Toy Story 4” and “Q: The Quincy Jones Autobiography.” She once said her father had nothing to say about her life that she produced in the documentary.

Her singing career certainly deserves a mention. She sang ‘Maroon 5’ and Tupac Shakur. She also played the soundtracks ‘The Baxter,’ ‘The Ten’ and ‘Reno911!: Miami.’ She has also been featured in Aaliyah’s music videos ‘The Boy Least Likely To’ and ‘Foo Fighters.’
