Kat Dennings was born as Katherine Victoria Litwack, on 13 June 1986, to the poet and speech therapist Ellen Judith Litwack from Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, United States. She’s the youngest of five children and has Geoffrey S. Litwack, the brother.

Except spending half a day in the Central School of Friends, she was a parent and a high school graduate at the age of 14. She began to be published since she was ten and later began acting in full time with her family after moving to Los Angeles and taking her surname ‘Dennings.’ Kat Dennings made her debut on TV as an unpleasant 13-year-old in the ‘Hot Child in the City’ episode of HBO’s ‘Sex and the City’ in 2000. She had Sarah Stewart’s main role in the short-lived WB sitcom ‘Raising Dad’ the next year.

In 2002, she appeared in Disney Channel movie ‘The Scream Team,’ followed by a series of guest appearances like ‘Without a Trace,’ ‘Less than Perfect,’ ‘CSI: Crime Scene Research,’ ‘Clubhouse’ and ‘CSI: NY.’

She made her film debut at Hilary Duff’s ‘Raise Your Voice’ as a sombre piano student in 2004 and had a recurrent role in the medical drama series ‘ER’ in 2005.

In the years that followed she concentrated on films that played supporting roles in ‘Down in the Valley,’ ‘The 40 Year-Old Virgin’ and ‘Big Momma’s House 2.’ She also starred as Susan Gardner and Norah Silverberg in comedy-drama films ‘Charlie Bartlett’ (2007) as well as ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ (2008).

In 2009 she appeared in the romantic comedy “The Answer Man” as a renowned author, she co-starred in the dark children’s “Shorts” movie and played a crack-addicted prostitute in the superheroic movie “Defendor.” That year she also gave the animated sitcom ‘American Dad!’ her voice.

She performed as Caroline Wexler in the independent Canadian drama “Daydream Nation” in 2010, and in a music video she played the single ’40 Dogs’ (like Romeo and Juliet) by the Texas based musician Bob Schneider. The same year, she was filming in the 2011 film ‘Thor’ for her role as Darcy Lewis, the tech-savvy but shy sidekick and assistant to Natalie Portman’s character, Jane Foster.

She then joined Beth Behrs when she was cast as Max George Black in the CBS Sitcom, 2 Broke Girls, a role which, according to producer Michael Patrick King, was “pretty moulded” for her. The series lasted between 19 September 2011 and 17 April 2017 and was cancelled after six seasons.

She played the 2012 movie ‘To Write Love upon Her Arms’ and the horror comedy ‘Suburban Gothic’ in 2014. In the 2013 movie ‘Thor: The Dark World’ she took her role again.

Born into a Jewish family, she is more ethnic and cultural than religiously affiliated to Judaism and also practises transcendental meditation. She’s not smoking or drinking and she doesn’t like people.

She has been romantically connected with several people in the past, especially her affair with actor Ira David Wood IV over two and a half years and her relationship with actor Nick Zano over two years. After being introduced to her by co-star Beth Behrs in 2014, she began to talk to singer Josh Groban and the couple broke off in mid-2016. The favourite hobby of Kat Dennings is knitting, and the UFC champion Ronda Rousey has launched a knitting club, called “The yarn and the restless.” She also learned to decorate ‘2 Broke Girls’ cupcakes.

From January 2001 to February 2010, Kat Dennings has blogged extensively on her website katdennings.com, after which she moved to social media and vlogged on Youtube. She also co-wrote with her brother Geoffrey Litwack a script called ‘Your Dreams Suck.’
