During the span of a decade, Yuzuru Hanyu, a Japanese figure skater, has broken twelve world records. The Japanese national champion has two Olympic gold medals, a World Championship silver and a Junior Grand Prix final under his belt while competing in the men’s singles event. He also has two silver and one bronze medal to his name from the World Championship, as well as one from the Four Continents. During the 2010–11 season, he was promoted to the senior level and competed in the ‘2010 NHK Trophy,’ where he finished fourth overall, and the ‘2010 Cup of Russia,’ where he finished seventh.. In 2011, he was selected to compete in the ‘2011 Four Continents Championships’ after finishing fourth at the ‘2010–11 Japan Championships.’ He set a new personal best and won a silver medal.
When Yuzuru Hanyu won the 2011 Nebelhorn Trophy to begin the 2011–12 season, the ‘2011 Grand Prix’ series put him in contention for the ‘2011 Cup of China’ and the ‘2011 Rostelecom Cup. Afterwards, he won gold at the ‘2013 Finlandia Trophy,’ and two silvers at the ‘2013 Skate Canada International,’ and the ‘2013 Trophée Éric Bompard,’ which earned him a place in the ‘Grand Prix Final,’ which he also won.”
His Grand Prix Final title was successfully defended despite his injury and illness throughout the 2014-15 season. He also took home a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships. He won the Japan National Championships for the third time in a row that year, and his participation in the ‘2015 World Team Trophy,’ helped Team Japan take home the bronze medal.
At the 2015 NHK Trophy, he broke both world records by scoring 106.33 in the short programme and 216.07 in the free skate for a total of 322.40 points. With 110.95 points in the short programme and 219.48 points in the free skate, he won his third Grand Prix Final in a row and set a new world record of 330.43 points.
During the 2015–16 season, he won his fourth straight Japan Championships title and, despite being sidelined for two months due to injury, finished second at the 2016 World Championships.
A quadruple loop for the first time in history was one of his highlights of the 2016-17 season, which saw him defend his Grand Prix Final title and win the World Championships for the second time in three years.
