An American college and professional gridiron football quarterback who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NFL history is Peyton Manning, in full Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976). He led the Indianapolis Colts to a Super Bowl victory in 2007 and the Denver Broncos to a victory in 2010. (2016).

As a child, Manning was engrossed in football. His father, New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning, was a star. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning led the team to two Super Bowl victories, XLII and XLVI. At the end of his high school career, Peyton Manning was named National Player Of The Year.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he went on to play college football for four seasons as a starter. A first-team All-American in 1997, he was named the nation’s best amateur athlete in 1996, and he ended his undergraduate career as Tennessee’s career passing leader in 1998.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Manning in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft. In 1999, he helped the Colts win their first division championship since 1987 after a disappointing debut season. He passed for 4,413 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2000, placing him among the league’s best passers.

Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans shared the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award with him three years after that. In 2004, Manning set NFL records with 49 touchdown passes and a passer rating of 121.1, both of which he achieved in a single season (his touchdown record was broken in 2007, and his passer rating record fell in 2011).

For decades, he has been a sought-after commercial pitchman because of his on-the-field prowess and friendly demeanor. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods may not be as ubiquitous as Manning, but the football player has risen to a level of celebrity that few other players have ever achieved, due in part to the shortness of their careers and the fact that they play while wearing face-obscuring helmets.

Manning guided the Colts to a 13-game winning streak in 2005. In the divisional playoffs, the club fell short of an upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite being one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Before the 2006 season, several questioned Manning’s ability to win a championship, but he proved them wrong.

After throwing for 4,397 yards, breaking Dan Marino’s all-time passing record, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning led the team to a 12-3 record in the regular season. Manning led the Indianapolis Colts to victory over the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI following playoff wins over the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots. Manning was chosen the game’s MVP for his effort, which featured 25 completions for 247 yards and a touchdown.

His third MVP title came in 2008, and he led the Colts to a 14-0 start in 2009 en route to a record-setting fourth MVP trophy. However, while Manning helped the Indianapolis Colts to their second Super Bowl berth with another game-changing interception in the fourth quarter of a loss to the New Orleans Saints, his past failures to win important games were once again raised.

In 2010, after guiding the Colts to their tenth consecutive postseason appearance, Manning was named to his second straight Pro Bowl. The following off-season, he underwent his third neck surgery in as many months, and as a result, he missed the whole 2011 season, ending his streak of 208 consecutive regular-season starts (the second-highest total for a quarterback in NFL history).

The Colts’ record fell to 2-14 without Manning. When Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was injured in 2012, the team decided to let him go to avoid paying him the $28 million he was due in bonuses, and Manning signed a five-year contract with the franchise.

Manning soon regained his best form in Denver. He threw for 4,659 yards and 37 touchdowns while leading the NFL in completion percentage (68.6). Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning led the team to a conference-best 13-3 record, but the Broncos were knocked out of the playoffs in their first game.

It was one of the greatest seasons in NFL history for a quarterback, with 5,477 passing yards, 55 touchdowns, and just 10 interceptions in 2013. Over the course of the season, the Broncos racked up an incredible 606 points, finishing with 13 wins and a top spot in the AFC again. Additionally, Manning was named the league’s Most Valuable Player for the fifth time.

With a career total of 71,940 throwing yards and 539 touchdowns, he ended his professional football career in March 2016. The Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted Manning in 2021.

When the New York Giants won two Super Bowl wins in 2008 and 2012 with Eli Manning at the helm of the team, each time he was awarded the MVP award, he became the first player in NFL history to win two MVP awards in the same season.

As the youngest of Archie Manning’s three kids, Manning was an NFL quarterback in his own right. He played collegiate football at the University of Mississippi, where he threw for 10,119 yards and 81 touchdowns over four seasons. At the end of his career, he was voted third in Heisman Trophy voting, was awarded the Maxwell Award for the nation’s greatest all-around player, and was selected Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

Because Manning did not want to play for San Diego, the team moved him to the New York Giants in the 2004 NFL draught, making him their first-round selection pick.  Eli’s early troubles may have been influenced by the inevitable comparisons to his sibling. While starting quarterback in 2004, 2005, and 2006, he led the New York team to a record of 20-21, with two losses in playoff games.

Manning threw 20 interceptions in the 2007 regular season, but the Giants ended 10-6 and qualified for the playoffs, despite the quarterback’s struggles. Postseason success followed with victories over the Buccaneers at Tampa Bay, Dallas, and the Packers in Green Bay to seal the NFC title and a trip to Super Bowl XLII for New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning in 2005.
