“Anderson Cooper,” full name Anderson Hays Cooper, (born June 3, 1967, New York City), American television journalist and entertainment best known as the host of CNN’s news and commentary show Anderson Cooper 360°. Cooper was born in New York City, New York, and raised in the United States.

Cooper was born into a distinguished New York City family; he is the son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt and writer Wyatt Emory Cooper. Cooper was raised in New York City by his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, and father, Wyatt Emory Cooper.

Cooper began working as a fact-checker for Channel One News in 1990, after getting a B.A. in political science from Yale University in 1989. Channel One News is a news show that is aired in many middle and high schools throughout the United States.

Over the course of this period, he obtained a fake press pass and flew to Southeast Asia, where he self-produced coverage of the political unrest in Myanmar (Burma). These news stories were shown on Channel One, which afterward appointed Cooper as its top foreign reporter.

Cooper began his career as a reporter for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in 1994, ultimately becoming the co-anchor of World News Now, the network’s nightly news show.

Cooper quit news reporting in 2000 to anchor ABC’s prime-time reality television program The Mole, which debuted in 2001. In 2001, he returned to the newsroom as a reporter for CNN, where he rose to the position of host of his own show, Anderson Cooper 360°, in 2003, while also contributing to CNN’s Newsnight program on a regular basis.

Cooper gained global notoriety in 2005 for his emotional reporting on the damage wrought by Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast of the United States of America.

Cooper sought other television options while continuing to work for CNN at the time. His first major television appearance was as a frequent contributor to the CBS news program 60 Minutes in 2007, and from 2011 to 2013, he hosted Anderson (later Anderson Live), a nationally syndicated daytime chat show. Additionally, Cooper has authored numerous books, the most recent of which being The Rainbow Comes and Goes:

A Mother and Son on Life, Love, and Loss (2016; written with his mother) and Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty (2017; written with his father) (2021; written with Katherine Howe). Anderson spoke about his off-screen life in his book Dispatches from the Edge (2006), and he came out publicly as homosexual in 2012, according to People magazine. In 2016, the documentary Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper premiered on the History Channel.

CNN, or Cable News Network, Inc., is the full name of television’s first 24-hour all-news program, which is owned by WarnerMedia. CNN’s corporate headquarters are located in Atlanta.

According to legend, CNN was founded by maverick television mogul Ted Turner as part of his Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), supposedly in response to industry experts telling him it couldn’t be done. On June 1, 1980, after four years of development, CNN went live with a news broadcast hosted by Dave Walker and Lois Hart, a husband and wife combination who had worked together for many years.

Given its low financial resources, CNN was once mocked by its more wealthy rivals as “the Chicken Noodle Network.” As a result of this disparagement, CNN underwent a long and difficult battle to gain acceptance in the broadcasting industry. CNN, which grew and expanded with the cable sector, was able to retain a dedicated audience by providing what the traditional networks could not:

comprehensive, continuous coverage of all news events, big and small. Throughout this time period, the company’s motto was “Go live, stick with it, and make it significant.” In an effort to accommodate its global audience, CNN implemented a policy that prohibited the use of exclusionary terms and phrases such as “foreign” and “here at home” in its newscasts and broadcasts.

When the Challenger space shuttle catastrophe occurred in 1986, the network outperformed the competition by providing on-the-spot coverage. When the Persian Gulf War broke out five years later, CNN once again outperformed the other networks with live “in-country” telecasts from Kuwait. CNN’s team of journalists, which included Bernard Shaw, Peter Arnett, and John Holliman, covered the war from both sides of the conflict and became well-known to the American public.

Daniel Schorr, Wolf Blitzer, Catherine Crier, Mary Alice Williams, Christiane Amanpour, and Paula Zahn are among the other renowned CNN reporters and analysts who have been on the network. This is CNN, says the “voice of CNN,” which is given by acclaimed actor James Earl Jones, whose recorded voice is heard on a daily basis saying “This is CNN.”

Additionally, CNN provided a steady diet of daily and weekly prime-time series, beginning with Moneyline (1980–2001; later renamed Lou Dobbs Moneyline [2001–03] and Lou Dobbs Tonight [2003–09]) and continuing with such efforts as Crossfire (1982–2005), Evans and Novak (1980–98, cohosted by newspaper columnists Rowland Evans and Robert Novak; renamed Evans, Novak, Hunt and Shields [1988– The weekly Larry King Live (1985–2010), hosted by Larry King and long one of CNN’s most popular programs, was also for a number of years cable television’s highest-rated interview show.

Television shows such as Anderson Cooper 360° (2003–) and The Situation Room (2005–) are examples of more contemporary CNN programming. Following the launch of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (2013–18), an award-winning travel show presented by former chef Anthony Bourdain, the channel began incorporating documentary and reality television shows into its programming lineup in 2013.

When the Turner Broadcasting System, which included CNN, was acquired by the entertainment behemoth Time Warner Inc. in 1996, CNN became part of the new entity (later called WarnerMedia).

A member of the Vanderbilt family, one of the richest and most influential families in the United States. Following Cornelius and William Henry Vanderbilt, the third generation of Vanderbilts was headed by three of William Henry’s four sons: Cornelius Vanderbilt (1843–99), William Kissam Vanderbilt (1849–1920), and George Washington Vanderbilt (1862– 1914).

Cornelius was by far the most dedicated of the three to the advancement of the family’s commercial and investing interests. Following his father’s death in 1885, Cornelius assumed control of the many railways and other enterprises, as well as the charitable efforts of the family foundation.

On numerous social and civic boards, he served as chairman, and he was responsible for the awarding of large sums of money to institutions such as Yale University, Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and numerous other educational, charitable, and religious institutions.

When it came to managing the Vanderbilt interests and companies, William Kissam Vanderbilt collaborated with his brother Cornelius. In contrast to his brother, father, and grandpa, he was significantly less engaged in the world of business than they were.

Since turning over the operation of the railways to an independent corporation in 1903, William Kissam has concentrated his energies on humanitarian, social, and sports endeavors. The running of the Metropolitan Opera, art collecting, and yacht racing were all areas in which he was extensively interested throughout his lifetime. With Defender, he helped the United States win America’s Cup in 1895 for the first time since 1851.
