Today I will tell you about HOW TO CONTACT AVA DUVERNAY?

Ava Marie DuVernay is an American filmmaker who was born on August 24, 1972. She became the first black woman to receive the directing award in the U.S. Her film 13th was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2017. (2016).

A Wrinkle in Time, a Disney children’s fantasy film released in 2018, made DuVernay the first black woman to direct a live-action film, grossing $100 million in the United States while losing up to $131 million. The film received mixed reviews, with some reviewers criticising the “strong use of CGI” in the film. The following year, she developed, co-wrote, produced, and directed the critically acclaimed Netflix drama limited series When They See Us, which is based on the 1989 Central Park jogger case. The series was nominated for 16 Emmy Awards, including the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Limited Series and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series.

DuVernay was named to Time magazine’s annual list of the world’s most influential people in 2017.

DuVernay was elected to the board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the directors division in 2020.

DuVernay was born in Long Beach, California, on August 24, 1972. DuVernay developed an interest in rhyming and hip-hop while growing up with an entrepreneur father who owned a carpeting company. She went on to UCLA to study rhyming and hip-hop. She worked in film publicity during the 1990s before founding the DuVernay Agency, which specialised in film marketing for African-American audiences.

DuVernay was inspired to start producing her own films when working on the 2004 thriller Collateral, starring Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise. She began by releasing short films such as Saturday Night Life in 2006 and the documentaries This Is the Life (2008) and My Mic Sounds Nice: The Truth About Women in Hip Hop, both of which aired on BET in 2010.

In the same year, DuVernay made her feature film directorial and screenwriting debut with I Will Follow, a moving drama about a woman mourning the death of her aunt due to cancer. The film launched DuVernay’s career, with Roger Ebert praising it as “a universal tale about universal emotions.”

DuVernay co-founded the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement in 2011, a community committed to the production and distribution of Black independent films. Middle of Nowhere, the filmmaker’s second movie, was released in 2012. Emayatzy Corinealdi, Omari Hardwick, Lorraine Toussaint, and David Oyelowo starred in the film, which followed an ambitious, conflicted woman whose husband is incarcerated. At Sundance, DuVernay became the first Black woman to win the director’s award.

The following year, DuVernay directed an episode of Kerry Washington’s hit drama Scandal and released the ESPN documentary Venus Vs., which followed Venus Williams’ battle for equal pay for female tennis players.

A proposed biopic on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the first for the big screen, was ultimately directed by Lee Daniels and starred David Oyelowo. When Daniels decided to direct The Butler instead, the project’s script, written by Paul Webb, was thrown into disarray before Oyelowo persuaded Pathé to bring DuVernay on board as director. Producers Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt have joined the project, and DuVernay rewrote the script despite not receiving screenwriter credit due to prior contractual obligations.

The following year, DuVernay made headlines as the creator and producer of the four-part Netflix miniseries When They See Us, which is based on the true storey of five New York City teenagers who were wrongfully accused of raping and assaulting a jogger in Central Park in 1989. When They See Us earned a slew of Emmy awards, with Jharrel Jerome winning for outstanding lead actor in a limited series, but fans were outraged when DuVernay’s work was overlooked for Golden Globe nominations.
