C Raveendranath is an Indian politician who currently serves as the Minister for Education in Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan Ministry. He is a Thrissur-based Communist Party of India politician who has served in the Kerala Legislative Assembly since 2011 from the Puthukkad Assembly constituency. He is a retired Chemistry professor from Thrissur’s St. Thomas College.

C Raveendranath was born on November 22, 1955, Nellayi, India. He was born to K. Peethambaran Kartha and C. Lekshmikutty Kunjamma. Prof. M. K. Vijayam is his wife, and they have two children, Dr. Lakshmi Devi and Jayakrishnan. During his academic career, Prof. C. Raveendranath was involved with the Kerala Shastra Sahithya Parishad and the AKPCTA.

He received his education in Thrissur and holds a Master’s degree. After completing his studies, he began his career as a college lecturer and later served as a professor at St. Thomas College in Thrissur before becoming fully involved in politics. He is currently a member of the Area Committee and has previously served as the vice president of the Kerala Sastra Sahithya Parishad.

C. Raveendranath is a well-known political figure in Kerala’s LDF. He is a CPI representative (M). He currently serves as Minister of Education in Pinarai Vijayan’s newly elected State Assembly. He won the 2016 state assembly elections by a large margin of 38478 votes over Sundaran Kunnathully of the Indian National Congress. He was elected to the state assembly for the third time, this time representing the Puthukkad constituency in the Thrissur district. He was a first-time cabinet minister, one of three from the Thrissur district, the other two being A. C. Moideen and V. S. Sunil Kumar. He is the last MLA from Kodakara and the first from the newly created Puthukad constituency.

Prof. C. Raveendranath, a retired chemistry professor from St. Thomas College, was a member of the Kerala Shastra Sahithya Parishad and the AKPCTA throughout his academic career. He had also acted as a Total Literacy Program resource individual, a consultant to the State Planning Board, and a district convenor for the People’s Planning Program.

He is known for developing realistic ventures that pool funds from all available sources. Officials recall him using MLA-MP funds and three-tier panchayats to finance agricultural, horticulture, floriculture, and dairying ventures. ‘Nivedya Kadali,’ which provides bananas to Guruvayur temple, supplying organic vegetables to Oushadhi, a state government body that produces Ayurvedic medicines, and the Natural Fresh Milk Scheme for distribution in Thrissur town are just a few of the initiatives.
