Beautiful Life, which was released in October, had a similar start but lacked the longevity of its predecessor. The Sun is Getting Nearer Sebastian fell into the trap that many of the decade’s television-made recording stars did: quick popularity came at the cost of insecurity and writer’s block, leading him to ponder quitting music between his second and third albums.

He went back to his house to compose his next project with his buddies, jamming and producing an organic product. Closer to the Sun was released in September 2006, and it charted at number four in Australia, selling over 70,000 copies. Sebastian released The Memphis Album a year later, a compilation of ’60s Southern soul cover tracks recorded at Memphis’ famed Ardent Studios. That’s how I like it. Sebastian made a comeback in 2010 with the album Like It Like That.

Following the success of the album, he returned to his role as a judge on The X Factor. Sebastian released Conscious, his eighth studio album, in 2017, which reached number four in Australia. The hits “High on Me” and “Bloodstone” were included in the album.

Guy Sebastian is the first to admit that his ninth album, T.R.U.T.H., was born out of adversity, but the singer-songwriter has proven that he has true grit and depth, delivering a deeper, more profound window into the vocal talent and heart of one of Australia’s most popular and respected male artists.Sebastian was in a terrible place just before creating the songs for this album, following an unpleasant breakup with his former manager of 11 years. “I felt more alone than I’d ever felt before, and I honestly didn’t know who to trust,” he says.

Something that had once signified safety to me had now become the embodiment of everything I feared. It was as if I was weeping for something that had never existed, and I felt like an idiot. As a result, I had an illogical dread of forgetting how to get back on stage or compose another song.”Guy found himself at a fork in the road and realised he wanted to get back into the studio to restore his creative confidence. “I was in tears before the session on the first day of creating this new record.

I needed to create myself a battle song, something to remind me that I am in charge of my own future. That day, I penned the album’s first song, ‘Before I Go.The singer’s vocal delivery on this song proves to the audience that he can write one of his best songs even while he’s in anguish. On the second day, another ballad, ‘Believer,’ was performed. Guy rediscovers his true calling. “I’m going to keep doing it as long as I’ve got a voice and as long as I’ve got music to create,” he pledges.

Sebastian’s song ‘Before I Go,’ which was released in November 2018 and peaked at  on the Netherlands iTunes list, opened up various new global markets for him. Then, in May 2019, Sebastian released ‘Choir,’ the second single from T.R.U.T.H., which went on to become Sebastian’s biggest radio song to date. Sebastian’s biggest success is this multi-ARIA Award-winning, 3x Platinum-certified hit. This highly personal tribute, written while suffering the death of his late friend and musical colleague Luke Liang, topped the Australian iTunes Chart and reached  on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Sebastian felt motivated to connect with his audience on a deeper level after refocusing on the expressive power of his voice: “I wanted to produce something that was about my life, the things that I’ve gone through, and my realities.”So, what’s next? With the soulful celebration that is ‘Let Me Drink’ feat. Sebastian released a totally different proposal in November 2019. Wale and the HamilTones.

Guy essentially created song number three with The HamilTones in mind, after he’d just concluded his first term as a coach on The Voice and was feeling “a little overworked.I’m a big fan of those guys, and it was awesome to have them in the studio to add that Southern soul to the album,” Guy says of the trio, whose golden vocals also grace two more T.R.U.T.H. tracks: the upbeat, love-struck ‘Love On Display’ and the ballad ‘Who I Love,’ which celebrates individuality within the context of a relationship.

(“I know you’re a beautiful mess/ But that’s who you Sebastian then went on to have another Top 10 ARIA success with ‘Standing With You,’ the Gold-certified fourth single from T.R.U.T.H., which was released in June. It’s certainly one of the most emotional songsI’veeverreleased,” Guy says of this important tune, which is the spiritual balm we all need right now.And the publication of T.R.U.T.H.’s singles sparked a flood of fan contact, with fans spilling their hearts out to Guy via social media, email, and snail letter.

He confesses that “those comments and shared moments truly helped me make this album,” giving him “such purpose and determination to keep going.” So T.R.U.T.H. is also their album.”T.R.U.T.H. was written in spurts over a two-and-a-half-year period, over multiple sessions with songwriters in various geographical areas, yet it’s indisputably Sebastian’s most cohesive-sounding album to date. Guy comments, “I feel like every song on the record has extremely tremendous surges of emotion or stress release.”
