In the first-ever body bag challenge in WWF history, he was defeated by Warrior. In the 1991 King of the Ring tournament, Undertaker defeated Animal in a qualifying match before fighting Sid Vicious to a double disqualification in the Semi-Final, eliminating both men from the tournament. With the aid of Ric Flair, The Undertaker beat Hulk Hogan at Survivor Series to win his first WWF Championship, making him the youngest WWF Champion in history until Yokozuna shattered the record in April 1993 at WrestleMania IX.

Six days later, WWF President Jack Tunney demanded a rematch, which he lost to Hogan again. The championship was abandoned by Tunney owing to the contentious ends of The Undertaker’s two title bouts against Hogan. Ric Flair won the 1992 Royal Rumble bout and was given the championship.

Calaway was renamed “The Undertaker” in the WWF and became well-known as a macabre, horror-themed figure with supernatural ties. The Undertaker is most known for The Streak, a string of 21 consecutive victories that he achieved at WWE’s premier yearly event, WrestleMania. Since 1997, he has feuded or partnered as The Brothers of Destruction with his in-story half-brother Kane. The Undertaker owns four WWF/E Championships, three World Heavyweight Championships, one Hardcore Championship, and six World Tag Team Championships inside the organisation. He’s also one of WWE’s most successful pay-per-view performers, having headlined five WrestleMania events. The Undertaker retired from professional wrestling in June 2020, 30 years to the day after making his debut for the organisation. He made a final appearance at that year’s Survivor Series event.
