Jeff Dunham is an American comedian and film producer who is also well-known for his significant contribution to ventriloquism, having done much to promote the art form. He is also highly popular in Europe. Dunham’s interest in ventriloquism began when he was a child.

As a teenager, he performed in a variety of settings, including schools and churches. After numerous appearances on renowned television shows, his reputation skyrocketed in 2006 with the release of his self-produced one-hour show ‘Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself’. His subsequent big work, ‘Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity,’ was a huge success, gaining him widespread acclaim. His success elevated him to the level of celebrity comedians such as Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfield, and in 2009, he launched the internationally popular ‘The Jeff Dunham Show.’ Throughout his career, he has also sparked various controversies, most notably for his caricatures of prominent figures.

Jeff Denham was born in Dallas, Texas, on 18 April 1962. He was adopted a few months after his birth by Howard Dunham, a real estate appraiser, and his homemaker wife Joyce. He was an only child.

Dunham began practising ventriloquism at the tender age of eight when his parents presented him with a Mortimer Snerd dummy. Following that, he began studying ventriloquism in the library.

Following numerous appearances at area high schools and colleges, his fame began to spread slowly throughout the Dallas region. However, as his fame increased, so did the stature of his targets, as he mocked several prominent members of the community.

Dunham began attending the Vent Haven ConVENTion in Kentucky while he was in sixth grade. It was an annual convention attended by ventriloquists from around the world. Eventually, the organisers discovered that the other attendees were too terrified to compete against him, and they were obliged to designate him a retired champion’, thereby excluding him from competing in any future events.

After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Baylor University. His weekends, on the other hand, were rather hectic, as he was required to travel to numerous locations throughout the country for various performances. During this period, he also decided to develop a few characters who would accompany him on a continuous basis. Jeff Dunham also used to entertain corporate clients by performing private shows on weekends during his stay at Baylor University. While performing his routine, he mocked various important figures, including the CEO of General Electric.

He began his career as a ventriloquist by performing for the Broadway production ‘Sugar Babies,’ and afterwards at events such as the ‘Westbury Music Fair.’ Later that year, in 1988, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he began appearing on a variety of television programmes.

In 2003, he made his first solo appearance on the Comedy Central television network, in a half-hour segment on the show ‘Comedy Central Presents.’ Though his performance was successful and well-received, the network declined to grant him additional time.

When I graduated from high school in 1980, my aim was to appear on at least one episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962) before our ten-year class reunion. Our class reunion was in June 1990, and I made it by a few months due to my appearance on “The Tonight Show” in April 1990.

I spent my youth in a nice, drama-free neighbourhood in Dallas, Texas. The only thing that set me apart from the majority of my friends was the fact that I was an only child… That is not why my parents got me a dummy, at least they have never admitted it.

I taught myself ventriloquism in third grade… What’s difficult is learning how to entertain and make people laugh. I was a few years out of college when I believed I possessed sufficient stuff. Then, in 1988, I relocated to Los Angeles and began performing at comedy clubs.

We recently acquired a tour bus. I had no idea tour buses could be this luxurious. It’s just me, guitarist Brian Haner, tour manager and writer. We make fun of ourselves. We will apparently have a road dog, a small pincher. It is the tiniest creature they have ever seen. How macho will I appear while interacting with dolls and a little dog?

I used the standard little-boy dummy that sits on the knee and makes woodpecker jokes until I reached college age. My first original character, Jose the Jalapeno on a Stick, came later.
