Yoo Jeong-Yeon is known by the stage name Jeongyeon. She is a singer from South Korea. She is a member of Twice, a JYP Entertainment girl group from South Korea.

Jeongyeon Biography:

Jeongyeon was born on November 1, 1996, as Yoo Kyung-wan in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Gong Seung-Yeon, an actress, is one of her two older sisters. Her father was a chef who worked for former South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung. Jeongyeon began taking aerobics classes at a young age and quickly developed an interest in singing and dancing.

Career:

Pre-debut:

Jeongyeon initially failed an audition to join JYP Entertainment as a child but was able to join after passing an open audition in March 2010. She trained for five years before making her Twice debut. Jeongyeon was expected to join a new JYP girl group alongside current Twice members Nayeon, Sana, and Jihyo from 2013 to early 2015. However, this project was canceled, and they did not make their debut. Jeongyeon competed in the television show Sixteen in 2015, a reality television contest designed to select Twice’s founding members. She was chosen as one of the nine winners who went on to form Twice in the final episode.

Twice:

Jeongyeon made his official debut as a member of Twice in October 2015, with the release of their first extended play, The Story Begins. “Like Ooh-Ahh” was the first K-pop debut song to reach 100 million views on YouTube. From July 2016 to January 2017, Jeongyeon and her sister co-hosted the South Korean music show Inkigayo, for which they both received the Newcomer Award at the 2016 SBS Entertainment Awards. Since her debut, Jeongyeon has also worked as a songwriter for some of Twice’s songs. Jeongyeon and her bandmate Nayeon were named among the top 20 most popular idols in South Korea in Gallup Korea’s annual music poll for four years in a row, from 2016 to 2019.

Health issues:

JYP Entertainment announced on October 17, 2020, that Jeongyeon would be taking a break from activities due to anxiety issues. She made her comeback at the 30th Seoul Music Awards on January 31, 2021.
