Jim Inhofe (born November 17, 1934, Des Moines, Iowa, U.S.), a full-fledged American politician who was elected to the American Senate as a Republican in 1994 and began representing Oclahoma later this year. He was once mayor of Tulsa, Oklahoma (1978–84), and a member of the United States House of Representatives (1987–94).

Inhofe grew up in Tulsa, but he was born in Iowa. Following his tour in the U.S. Army (1957–58), he became an operational developer, a management officer in aviation and an insurance executive, including a president of the now-defunct Quaker Life Insurance Company. He married Kay Kirkpatrick during that time (1959), and the pair had four children afterwards. In addition, he has been a Member of the State legislature, serving in the House of Representatives (1967–69) and the Senate (1969–77) during his different employment possibilities. He graduated from college in the mid-30s with a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Tulsa in 1973. He ran for governor of the state the next year, but lost. Inhofe was made Mayor of Tulsa in 1978 after an unsuccessful offer for the U.S. House of Representatives. Twice before he left office in 1984 he was reelected. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1994 two years later. He was a notable opponent of the 1987 budget of President Ronald Reagan, who, after numerous protests before, increased taxes without at the same time lowering military spending.

In 1994, Inhofe held special elections for the U.S. Senate and won, which took office later that year. During his tenure as a Congressman Inhofe constantly voted for the furthest wing of the Republican Party. Inhofe wrote The Greatest Hoax: How The Global Warming Conspirativeness Threatens Your Future (2012) as an open-minded sceptic of climate change and compared the Environmental Protection Agency with the Gestapo. He was a vocal opponent of marital equality and abortion on social matters. Inhofe has been criticised for voting against government disaster relief efforts following hurricanes along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts while voting for federal help for natural disaster victims in his own nation.

In 1894, the University of Tulsa was chartered to replace the Presbyterian School of Indian Girls in Muskogee, Indian Territory, (now Oklahoma) in which it was founded in 1882. Financial concerns led to the transfer of the school to Tulsa in 1907 by officials of the Presbyterian Synod of Indian territory. It was reorganised in 1920 as Tulsa University. A section of petroleum engineering was established in 1928, graduate studies were approved in 1933 and the College of Business Administration was created in 1935. Founded in 1923, the Tulsa Law School was created in 1943 and transferred to the main campus in 1973.

Mayor, the head of a municipal government in modern use. As a result, the mayor is generally always the chairman of the local council and the board of directors. The mayor may also serve as chief executive officer, ceremonial figurehead and local central government agent. The mayor’s function in the other, more contemporary system of municipal management—the system of council managers—is significantly decreased and serves mainly as council chairman. Regardless of the form of the local government, the role of the mayor may largely depend on the mayor’s connection to the council and central government.

Mayors are elected or appointed. In Europe, the majority of mayors were nominated by the central government until the middle of the 19th century. With the rise of the representative government, more and more countries have been elected to the mayor. This technique takes a number of different forms. In most European countries the mayor is elected by the local council and is usually the head of the majority party or one of the biggest parties. In most European countries. Most mayors are popular in Switzerland, Canada, New Zealand, the Philippines and Japan.

The mayor is usually the actual as well as the formal leader of the local government in nations where the mayor is an officer of the central government as he is in France. In other words, the central government is normally responsible for the post and the mayor has considerably more executive authority than the council. As an agency of central government, the Mayor is the headquarters of the local government and the focus of policy.

With the rise of publicly elected municipal councils, many mayors have assumed a dual position not only as Chief Executive Officer of the local authorities, but also as central government agents with tasks such as public order, safety and health.During the American Civil War several hospitals were situated in Keokuk, to which wounded troops were transferred by boats to the Mississippi. One of the earliest ones to be named, Keokuk National Cemetery has graves of more than 4,000 troops. In the 1850s, writer Mark Twain resided temporarily in Keokuk and the public library holds a collection of his memorabilia.

The Central Government has never controlled the cities directly in the United States, and the mayors have been elected by the general population or by a city council whose members have also been elected. The so-called Council-Management System in which the Mayor, whether chosen by the Council or by the electorate at large, presided over the Council was one of the reform actions of the start of the 20th century while most of the executive powers were exercised by the City Manager hired by the Council.

The United States Senate, one of the two houses of the United States Congress, founded by the Constitution in 1789. Each state elects two six-year senators. The tenure of around 1/3 of the membership of the Senate expire every two years and the Chamber is named “the house that never dies.”

Each state is therefore equally represented, irrespective of size or population. In addition, the elections to the Senate were indirect until the Seventeenth Amendment of the Constitution (1913) by the state legislatures.

In accordance with the “advice and consent” provisions of Article II, section 2 of the Constitution the Senate has important powers: ratification of Treaties requires a two-thirds majority of all present Senators and a simple majority of important public appointments, such as members of the cabinet, ambassadors and Supreme Court judges, to be approved by simple majority. The Senate shall also adjudicate the procedures begun by the House of Representatives for the purpose of conviction by a two-thirds majority.

Each party elects a leader to co-ordinate Senate activity, usually a Senator of substantial significance in its own right. The leader of the largest party is known as the leader of the majority and the leader of the opposition as the leader of the minority. The leaders of the Senate also have a major role in the nomination of their party members to the Senate committees which evaluate and process legislation and have general oversight of government agencies and departments. The Vice President of the United States acts as Senate President, but can only vote if a tie exists. In the absence of the Vice President, the pro tempore president – normally the longest serving member of the governing party – is the Senate chairman.

Seventeen standing committees are typically organised around significant policy topics with staff, budgets and several subcommittees. The standing committees on appropriations, finance, government operations, external relations and the judiciary are essential. Thousands of amendments are referred to the committees during each session of Congress, however only a percentage of them are taken by the committees. The final text for a law is discussed at “mark-up” sessions, which can be open or closed. The committees hold hearings and call on witnesses to give evidence of the law before them. Select and special committees will also be established to conduct studies, investigate and report to the Senate on ageing, ethics, Indian affairs and intelligence.

The constitutional regulations on eligibility for membership of the Senate specify at least 30 years of age, nine years of citizenship and residence in the State of which they are elected.

As a midwestern state, Iowa forms a bridge between eastern and western forests of the high prairie plains. Its gentle undulating landscape rises progressively as it stretches west from the entire Eastern border of the Mississippi River. The Missouri River and its tributary, the Big Sioux, constitute the western frontier, making Iowa the only state in the United States to have two parallel rivers that define its borders. Iowa is limited to the north by Minnesota, and to the east by Wisconsin and Illinois, and to the south by Missouri and to the west by Nebraska and South Dakota. Des Moines is the capital in the south-central section of the state. The name of the state comes from the Iowa Indians, who originally inhabited the region.

Iowa is one of the leading U.S. farming states. Over nine-tenths of its area is devoted to agriculture, making it one of the top agricultural producing states. The state is well suited to mechanised agriculture and, with its rich soils, its gentle rolling hills and its wide precipitation, has become a national leader in agricultural. The majority of industries in Iowa have traditionally been linked to agricultural output; however, the economic downturn and collapse of land values in the 1980s made it crucial for the State to diversify its economy and work force. The focus on banking, insurance, biotechnology, and research and development was on the end of the twentieth century.

Iowans are especially proud of the state: four seasons, expansive countryside, efficient healthcare, a low crime rate and a pleasant social atmosphere. Moreover, Iowa plays a special role in the U.S. presidential election and becomes a national focus every four years by hosting its first national caucuses, the state-wide local political gatherings, at which participants express their preferences for presidential candidates, when it launches the main presidential season. The pride of Iowan citizens in their lifestyles on the heartland is imaginatively expressed in the answer to the query in the film photo Field of Dreams when the baseball ghosts passed around on the cornfield with the diamond: “Is this the Heaven?.” “No, this is Yowa.” “No. Area 56,273 miles square (145,745 square km). 3,046,355 people; (2019 is.) 3,155,070.

The town, situated at the foot of the Des Moines rapids, over which steamboats could not travel the Des Moines River, was a transshipment site after the railroad was finished in 1856. A ship channel was built around the rapids in 1877; the Des Moines was dammed in 1910–13 for electricity, navigation and flood control, and the Keokuk Lake was created.

During the American Civil War several hospitals were situated in Keokuk, to which wounded troops were transferred by boats to the Mississippi.
