The district of Junagadh is located in the Indian state of Gujarat. Junagadh is the administrative capital of the state. The district is situated on the peninsula of Kathiawar in western Gujarat. The Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden, also known as the Sakkarbaug Zoo, is a 200-hectare (490-acre) park in Junagadh that was established in 1863. The zoo offers purebred Asiatic lions to captive breeding projects for critically endangered species in India and around the world. It is also the country’s only zoo with African cheetahs. The zoo also has a natural history museum.

The Ashokan edicts are a classic example of traditional rock engraving techniques. Junagadh’s Maqbaras and various age-old palaces tell the tale of the city’s illustrious historical and architectural history.
