Kathryn “Kathie” Lee Gifford is a comedian, singer, composer, and actress known for hosting American television shows. She started as a Christian artist and sang in Baptist churches when she began her career. In subsequent years, she became the co-host of the chat program ‘Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee,’ which aired for 15 years.

They returned to the United States in 1957 and made their home in Bowie, Maryland, where her father found employment as a newspaper distributor and insurance agent. Her mother was born in the United Kingdom. In subsequent years, her parents established themselves as owners of a vacation hotel. At the age of twelve, she went to watch the movie “The Restless Ones,” which led to her conversion to the Christian faith. She received her education at Bowie High School. She was a member of the folk ensemble ‘Pennsylvania Next Right’ and played at school assemblies in high school.

In 1971, she graduated from high school, and the following year, she enrolled in Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she majored in music and theater. But during her junior year of college, she withdrew from the institution. After winning the state Junior Miss pageant when she was 17 years old, Kathie Lee Gifford traveled to Mobile, Alabama, to compete for the title of Junior Miss America in the state of Alabama.

There, she became acquainted with Anita Bryant, a Christian singer who was also a co-host of the pageant. At the beginning of the 1970s, she agreed with Anita Bryant to serve as a live-in secretary and babysitter at Bryant’s house in Miami. In 1996, the human rights organization National Labor Committee published a report claiming that the factory that created Gifford’s apparel line for Wal-Mart used labor from sweatshops.
