List of Excuses for Cancelling Plans with Friends

How often have you made plans with your friends to hang out on the weekend or some other day, but when that day comes, you just want to go home? When users made the plan, it might have seemed the greatest thing to do because they were tired of making office presentations or thinking about goals. But then you realize that it would be more fun to binge-watch at home with a bucket of cheese popcorn and a cold soda.

This happens, and it happens a lot. The reasons may be different, but it does happen. Most of the time, we start a casual get-together in a good mood but complain about work, bosses, girlfriends, boyfriends, family problems, etc.

This plan is for the day when you suddenly realize that you don’t want to gain those extra pounds and go on a spending spree this week. But you must have a good enough reason for them to believe that you can’t keep your plan with them. Let’s find out in this article, List of Excuses for Canceling Plans with Friends!

Dates for work

“I’m so sorry, but I have to finish my work this evening, you understand how it is these days! My boss is already looking for ways to fire me, and I don’t want to give him a chance… but done next time!”

At first, your friend might be upset, but in the end, they won’t blame you for canceling the plan.

The Hangover Journals

With friends, this always works, but you should be ready a day before your D-day plan. Just tell your friends that you went to an important office party or a family event (that was fake).

“I have a hangover and have been throwing up since the morning. Maybe it was the tequila or the sleep, but this has never happened before, and I can’t even get out of bed.”

Started crying

You need to put on a good show when you make this excuse. When you get the call to remind you of the plan, you should just start crying. If you can’t think of anything to say, just say, “I’ll talk to you later. Please carry one.” I don’t want to mess up your plans.

Even if your friend insists, keep it a secret. That way, they will keep wondering what happened but will know it’s something serious because you haven’t told them yet.

Family Trouble

Everyone gets it when it comes to family, so it’s not always a good idea. But what matters is how you explain yourself when you say you have a family emergency.

It must be strong enough to get you out of the plan, like, “My wife fell down the stairs and hurt herself. Luckily, my daughter was right in front of her and is fine.”

Tire is flat

This last-minute, full-on emergency works the best. To make it seem more real, dress up as you planned, take a selfie, and send it to one of the friends you’re meeting. There was no machinist around, you didn’t have a spare tire, or your tools were missing. If your friends know you can change the tire yourself, you can add any of these details to make it sound more real.

No matter what you tell your friends as an excuse, make sure you agree to make up for it or offer an excuse every other day. Stay nice and say, “Let’s meet up another weekend if you’re free,” if you’re not available.

Some people are drawn to people who show empathy. Telling people things like, “Tell them to have one more drink for you,” lightens the mood and makes up for your absence.
