Even if underhanded means are used, as in Confession, the truth will ultimately be brought to light. This is a universal reality. The plot of the suspenseful novel is about an ambitious district attorney who investigates a case involving a lady who has accused many men of sexual assault, only to discover a rabbit hole of past victims and killings. Alongside Sarah Hay, Nolan Gerard Funk, Sterling Beaumon, Michael Ironside, and Rob Giumarra, Clark Backo is the show’s primary actor. Confession also has an ensemble cast.

The movie successfully juggles the elements of a terrifying thriller with an up-to-date examination of sexual assault and law enforcement’s reaction (or lack thereof). Screen Rant had the opportunity to speak with Michael Ironside, one of the film’s stars, in an exclusive interview before the premiere of Confession. During their conversation, they discussed the gravity of the subject matter as well as the reasons why the movie is an important one in Ironside’s filmography.

The story of Confession follows an ambitious and up-and-coming district attorney who takes on the case of a young lady who has accused three men of sexual assault in a tiny town after the patient was dropped. She is putting her professional reputation on the line to unearth the truth. Still, she has no idea that the web she is unraveling leads to a chilling saga of murder, lies, and deception that can alter the city’s history for all time.

Michael Ironside is one of just a handful of actors working today who can genuinely be regarded as legendary, and what’s more, he’s managed to hang onto that reputation – and a tremendous fan following – for over three decades. He may not be winning major prizes or receiving blockbuster starring parts. Still, Michael Ironside is one of only a handful of today’s actors who can truly be defined as legendary. Because his most recent film, Confession, addresses a topic that is highly significant to him personally, he has agreed to speak with the press despite his general policy of not doing so.

In it, he portrays a detective working with a brilliant young district attorney keen to investigate a rape charge that, on the surface, doesn’t appear to be very compelling but may have secrets concealed behind it. The allegation in question is that the district attorney raped a woman. When we got together to speak about it, during a chat that included covering his recent work in BlackBerry and some of his former hits, he urged that we take our time, even though we were on a tight schedule, since he is adamant that this is a topic that isn’t discussed nearly enough. He has a firm belief in this.

My good friend Jon Keeyes, who is also one of the producers, was the one who sent me the script for Confession. We collaborated on two or three shorter films, and he suggested that we see this one together, citing that our political perspectives on specific topics are highly similar, and he was correct. I read Confession, and the thought of dealing with the subject matter of rape and non-consensual sex in a novel…” struck me as disturbing. The sigh escapes him. “I am the proud parent of two beautiful girls.
