American professional baseball player known by the alias Mike Schmidt, born Michael Jack Schmidt on September 27, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, the United States. He is widely considered one of the all-time great third basemen. He played his entire professional baseball career for the Philadelphia Phillies of the National League.
Schmidt was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies out of college in 1971 after playing baseball in Ohio. In 1972, he was promoted to the major leagues from the team’s minor league affiliate.
