He is the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Javadekar graduated from the University of Pune with a B.Com. (Hons) degree.

Dr. Prachee Javadekar, Javadekar’s wife, is an education researcher and consultant who was previously the Director of the Indira Institute of Management in Pune. Dr. Ashutosh Javadekar, a dentist and musician, and Apoorva Javadekar, an Assistant Professor of Finance at Indian School of Business, are his two sons.

On May 29, 2014, Shri Prakash Javadekar was sworn in as Minister of State for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change in New Delhi.

On July 7, 2016, Shri Prakash Javadekar was sworn in as the Union Minister for Human Resource Development in New Delhi. Javadekar was a founder of the student organisation ABVP. During Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s Emergency, which lasted from 1975 to 1977, Javadekar took part in anti-government student protests. He was jailed for several months around this period for leading a nonviolent satyagraha agitation in Pune.

From 1984 to 1990, Javadekar worked for the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha as a National Secretary and then General Secretary. He was appointed State Secretary and Campaign Chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Maharashtra in 1989, and he held that post until 1995.

Between 1990 and 2002, Javadekar served on the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was also the Executive President of the State Planning Board and then the Chairman of the Maharashtra Government’s Task Force on Information Technology.

Javadekar was elected as a Member of Parliament from Maharashtra to the Rajya Sabha in 2008. In 2014, he was re-elected in Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi named Javadekar as Minister State for Environment, Forests, and Climate Change after the Bharatiya Janata Party won the 2014 Indian General Election. In addition, he was appointed a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs. He was the Indian representative at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2015.

He was also Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting from May to November 2014. Following his appointment to the ministry, Javadekar said emphatically that “the media itself suffices for self-regulation.” Institutions are critical to democracy’s functioning, and goals will be determined after extensive consultation with stakeholders.”

Javadekar is now India’s Minister of Human Resources and Development, as well as a veteran spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party. He served as a Spokesperson for the Maharashtra BJP before becoming a National Spokesperson. He has also previously served as the head of the BJP’s Economic Forum and Cells.

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) ordered a CBI investigation on May 31, 2012, based on Javadekar’s concerns about various irregularities in coal mining. “, he explained “We lodged a formal report with CVC because there were so many apparent holes that needed to be investigated. It’s fine if the investigation has been ordered.”

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority, under Javdekar’s ministry, manages a similar admission procedure for national institutes. More than 3000 seats remained empty in the 92 institutes participating in the program in 2016, prompting calls for a new round of placements to fill the vacancies. The ministry has so far failed to perform another “spot round” of placements.

Javadekar was named Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, as well as Information and Broadcasting, in May 2019.
