In 2008, he was appointed as an independent candidate to the Legislative Council MLC. He later met TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and became a member of the Telugu Desam Party.
Member of Legislative Assembly:
He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh assembly from the Kodangal constituency in 2009 with 46.45 percent of the vote. In his election affidavit, he stated that his assets totaled 3.6 crores, with liabilities totaling 73 lakhs. During his first term, he began construction on the Kosigi bus depot as well as a polytechnic college. In the 2014 general elections, he contested again and was elected to the Telangana assembly from the Kodangal Constituency with a number of seats of 14,614 votes. In the 2014 elections, he declared 13.12 crores in assets and 3.3 crores in liabilities. He was elected as the Telugu Desam Party’s Floor Leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
After reports surfaced that Reddy was considering joining the Indian National Congress, the Telangana TDP announced on October 25, 2017, that it was removing Reddy as leader of the Telangana TDP.
On September 20, 2018, he was appointed as one of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s three working presidents.
Member of Parliament:
He contested in the 2019 General Elections and won the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 10,919 votes and 38.6 percent of the vote, defeating his nearest rival Marri Rajashekar Reddy TRS. He contested on the Indian National Congress Party’s ticket.
Arrest for bribery:
Revanth Reddy was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on May 31, 2015, during a sting operation for bribing appointed MLA Elvis Stephenson to vote for the TDP candidate in the Legislative Council election. He was remanded in custody for 14 days. On 15 June 2015, the court extended the remand for 15 more days till 29 June 2015. A criminal case was filed against him and two others, Bishop Sebastian Harry and Uday Simha, under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) – read with section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Telangana High Court granted conditional bail on June 30. TDP party members celebrated Revanth Reddy’s release on 1 July 2015 with a rally. He is on bail and is not permitted to leave Hyderabad without the permission of the ACB.
