Ronald José Acuna Blanco Jr. is a Venezuelan professional baseball outfielder who plays for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on December 18, 1997. Acura debuted in Major League Baseball in 2018, one year after signing with the Braves as an international free agency in 2014. He went on to win the National League Rookie of the Year Award.

The following year, Acua was recognized as a Major League Baseball All-Star, led the National League in stolen bases, and was awarded the Silver Slugger. In July 2014, Acuna became an international free agent and signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves for $100,000.In 2015, he made his debut in the professional ranks with the Gulf Coast Braves. Later that season, he was elevated to play for the Danville Braves. He went to bat in 55 games between the two clubs—269, including four home runs, 18 batted in, and 16 stolen bases.

Due to an injury, he played for both the Gulf Coast Braves and the Rome Braves in a total of just 42 games in 2016, but he still managed to post a batting line of.312/.392/.429 with four home runs and 19 RBIs.Following the season’s conclusion, he joined the Melbourne Aces of the Australian Baseball League and was selected as an All-Star for the ABL. As an extra player initially assigned to minor league camp, Acuna first appeared in Grapefruit League games at the beginning of the 2017 season. These games were Acua’s first professional baseball action.

At the beginning of the year, he played for the Florida Fire Frogs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. Later in the year, he was moved to the Mississippi Braves of the Class AA Southern League. In July, Acua was selected to be on the roster for the All-Star Futures Game, and he played the whole game.

After the All-Star break, he promptly reported to the Gwinnett Braves of the Class AAA International League. He made his debut in the International League the next game against the Charlotte Knights, and he knocked a home run to the opposite field in his second at-bat. Acua had a batting line of.325/.374/.522 for the year, with 21 home runs, 82 batted in, and 44 stolen bases. He played in 139 games.

Acua was invited to play in the Arizona Fall League after the 2017 minor league baseball season’s regular season concluded, and he was placed on the Peoria Javelinas roster. As a result of his performance in the AFL, in which he appeared in 23 games and hit.325/.414/.639 with seven home runs, the league title was his to claim, and he was named league MVP. He was the AFL’s youngest, most valuable player at the time.

Acua was given the top spot as the best prospect for Major League Baseball by Baseball America coming into the 2018 season. According to MLB.com, he was rated second overall, behind only the Japanese pitcher/hitter Shohei Ohtani. Acuna started the year by participating in the big league’s spring training. Acua was sent down to the minor league camp on March 19, 2018, despite having a batting average of.432 and hitting four home runs throughout spring training. He signed with the Gwinnett Stripers to get the 2018 campaign started.

The promotion to the big leagues for Acuna took place on April 25th, 2018, for the Braves. This gave him the title of the youngest Major League Baseball player at the time, which he took from his colleague Ozzie Albies. Although Acua wore the number 24 on his jersey during his whole career in the lower leagues as a tribute to Miguel Cabrera, he made his debut in the leading companies on April 25, 2018, wearing the number 13.

Kevin Shackelford was the one who gave Acuna his first hit of his career, which came against the Cincinnati Reds. He ended the game with one hit out of five, scoring the run that tied the game in the eighth inning, and the Braves went on to win 5–4. The next day, Acuna hit his first home run in the Major Leagues against the Reds, and it was off Homer Bailey. He ended the game with three hits out of four, and the Braves won 7–4. Acua was put on the 10-day injured list on May 28 due to a slight ACL sprain, a bruise in his left knee, and a back contusion. These injuries caused him to be unable to play baseball.

Acua was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett by the Braves on June 21 to complete his rehabilitation assignment. After the All-Star break, Acuna batted consistently in the first slot in the batting order most of the time. Following Kevin Seitzer’s advice, he modified his batting stance, significantly improving the player’s overall effectiveness. Acua became only the fourth player in the history of Major League Baseball when, on August 13, 2018, while playing against the Miami Marlins, he blasted a home run to start the first game of a doubleheader.

In addition, he was the youngest player since 1920 to hit a home run in his previous four games, making him the youngest player to achieve this accomplishment. Acua became the youngest player in the big leagues ever to hit home runs in five consecutive games when he did it against Trevor Richards on August 14. He also became the sixth batter in the history of the Atlanta Braves to accomplish this feat. Acua blasted his second home run of the night later in the same game when he was up against Adam Conley. This was the first time in his career that he had ever hit more than one home run in a game.

On the last game of the series between the Braves and the Marlins, which took place on August 15, Acua squared up against José Urea, who hit him with the game’s first pitch. At the beginning of the second inning, Urea was expelled from the match, and a different player on the field replaced Acua.On August 16, Acuna took the area for the Braves in their next game against the Colorado Rockies. The second time Acuna faced the Marlins, which was on August 23, he hit another home run and was hit by another pitch.

His performance throughout August earned him the Rookie of the Month award for Major League Baseball. Acuna hit his seventh leadoff home run on September 2, setting a Braves club mark Marquis Grissom had established for a player’s most leadoff home runs hit in a season. After those three days, Acua set a new record for the squad by hitting a home run in the leadoff spot during a game against the Boston Red Sox.

Acua became just the third player in the history of Major League Baseball to smash so many home runs before reaching the age of 21 when he launched his 25th home run on September 9. In the latter part of the same month, it was revealed that Acuna will be participating in the MLB Japan All-Star Series that will take place in November. Acua became the fourth player in the history of Major League Baseball to achieve a 25–15 season while still being 20 or younger when he stole his fifteenth base on September 22, 2018. He joined Alex Rodriguez, Orlando Cepeda, and Mike Trout in this exclusive club.

Acua had 111 appearances throughout Major League Baseball with the Braves in 2018, batting.293 with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs.
Acua became the youngest player in Major League Baseball history to smash a playoff grand slam on October 7, when he did so against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that was part of the National League Division Series. He was 20 years and 293 days old at the time. Walker Buehler was the pitcher for the Dodgers. On November 12th, he was given the honor of being selected Rookie of the Year for the National League.

On April 2, 2019, Acua and the Braves came to terms on a deal for $100 million over eight years. As part of the extension, the 2027 and 2028 seasons were made available to the team as an option. Acua became the youngest player in the history of baseball to sign a deal worth at least $100 million when he did it at the age of 21. The contract that Acuna signed was the one that was worth the most money for any player who had less than a year of experience in the big leagues.

By the beginning of June 2019, Acuna’s power output has garnered much attention. At the halfway point of the season, he was selected to start in the outfield for the National League in the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and he also received an invitation to compete in the Home Run Derby for that year. Acuna hit his thirtieth home run of the 2019 season against Tayron Guerrero, who was pitching for the Marlins, on the 9th of August.

On August 24, while playing against the New York Mets, Acuna became the 30th player in Major League Baseball history to reach 30 home runs. After Mike Trout, he became the second-youngest player in baseball history to attain the milestone. On September 19, Acua hit his 40th home run, making him the youngest player in the big leagues to reach the 40–30 club. After sustaining a very insignificant injury in the final series of the Braves’ 2019 season, he was taken out of action for the duration of the remaining games of the regular season.

Acua hit.280/.365/.518/.883 during the season, scoring 127 runs, which led the National League, and collecting 41 home runs and 37 stolen bases, all of which led the National League. Acua was three stolen bases short of entering the 40–40 club throughout his career. He had the highest power-speed number (38.9) in the big leagues. Aquaa, Ozzie Albies, and Freddie Freeman, each of whom play for the same club, were named the National League Silver Slugger Awards winners for the outfield, second base, and first base positions in 2019.
