An American professional basketball team was founded in 1967 in San Antonio, Texas, known as the San Antonio Spurs. Five NBA titles (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014) were won by the San Antonio Spurs during one of the most dominant periods in NBA history.

A 35-win season in 1989–90 as a result of Robinson’s arrival in San Antonio, and the Spurs made the playoffs in each of his first seven seasons, but he could not push the team through the conference finals alone. Fortune smiled on the Spurs when they were able to choose Tim Duncan as their first overall draught pick in 1997, after a 20–62 season marred by injuries.

During the 2012–13 season, the San Antonio Spurs set a new NBA record by winning 50 games in the regular season, advancing to the conference finals in each of those seasons, and losing a thrilling seven-game series to the Miami Heat to miss out on a trip to the NBA finals.
For the next season, the club set the record for most wins in the league with 62 and advanced to the NBA finals against the Miami Heat. On their way to winning their fifth championship in a best-of-five series, the Spurs put on one of the most effective and prolific scoring displays in finals history, setting multiple finals shooting marks.
Even after winning their fifth title, the Spurs remained a top-tier NBA club, led by young forward Kawhi Leonard. In 2016–17, the Spurs finished with 61 victories, good for second in the league, and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Leonard’s ankle injury in the second half of game one against the widely favored Golden State Warriors resulted in a 23-point second-half lead for San Antonio. The spurs’ postseason exit was one of the most humiliating in franchise history as they lost all four games without their greatest player.
This season was the first time in 20 years that the Spurs failed to win at least 50 games (or achieve the same winning percentage in a lockout-shortened 1998–99 season) since the franchise drafted Tim Duncan—an incredible 20-year run of elite play. A first-round playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors terminated that season. The San Antonio Spurs made it to the postseason despite the departure of star player Carmelo Anthony, who was traded in the off-season.
