Suzanne Collins is a famous children’s book author. Her most famous works are the Hunger Games trilogy, which consists of the books The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The young woman got her start as a writer by contributing to children’s animated television shows after completing her formal training in theatre and pursuing a concentration in writing for the stage. She has penned episodes for beloved kids’ shows like “Clarissa Explains It All,” “Little Bear,” and “Oswald.”

Almost thirteen years into her career as a television scriptwriter, she made the decision to shift gears and focus on creating books for younger audiences. The first book in her “The Underland Chronicles” series, “Gregor the Overlander,” was where she began her work on the series. She states that she got her inspiration from the classic children’s book “Alice in Wonderland.” Her interpretation of the story was predicated on envisioning what would happen if the protagonist were to fall down a manhole instead of a keyhole and find a scavenger’s feast instead of high tea.

The work was deemed a bestseller by the “New York Times,” and its author went on to write further books in the same vein. Soon after, she wrote the novel The Hunger Games, which became so popular that all 1.5 million copies of it and its sequel, Catching Fire, quickly ran out. She subsequently wrote another sequel, “Mockingjay,” which was likewise well-received by readers. The success of her novels has made her a household name in the field of children’s and young adult literature.

Suzanne Marie Collins was born to Michael Collins, an employee of the United States Air Force, and his wife, Jane, on August 10, 1962 in Hartford, Connecticut. The girl moved around a lot as a kid because of her father’s job, but she got to see a lot of the eastern United States. She studied theater at the prestigious Alabama School of Fine Arts in nearby Birmingham. She completed her education there and received her diploma in 1980, at the age of eighteen. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from “Indiana University” in 1985 with a double major in communications and theater. Soon after, she enrolled at the “New York University Tisch School of the Arts” to pursue dramatic writing, eventually earning a degree in the field in 1989.

Suzanne started writing scripts for kid-friendly shows on television in 1991. Clarisse’s debut series, “Clarissa Explains It All,” aired on “Nickelodeon” for four years. She wrote scripts for numerous popular animated TV shows between 1996 and 1999, including “The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo” and “Little Bear.” The latter was originally broadcast on the British program “Children’s BBC,” and it was based from a book by Else Holmelund Minarik. Screenwriter for the 2001 “Nick Jr.” cartoon series about a blue octopus, titled “Oswald,” was Collins.

The following year, she worked with screenwriter Peter Bakalian on the “Fox network” Christmas special Santa, Baby! On top of that, she was also contributing to “Generation O!,” a popular animated comedy series at the time. The talented writer mostly worked on the script for the animated series “Clifford’s Puppy Days,” which ran for a full year on the Public Broadcasting Service’s (PBS) and PBS Kids’ channels. Author James Promio and Suzanne met while she was working on episodes for the TV show Generation O!

He encouraged her to begin penning children’s books; she began with “Gregor the Overlander,” which is part of “The Underland Chronicles.” Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel “Alice in Wonderland” was the inspiration for this author’s 2003 book. She continued to contribute to the book between 2003 and 2007, during which time it was a runaway bestseller. Toggle between “Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane,” “Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods,” “Gregor and the Marks of Secret,” and “Gregor and the Code of Claw,” all part of the “The Underland Chronicles” series.

In 2005, she also created a piece titled “When Charlie McButton Lost Power,” which she presented in the form of a rhyming artwork. The Hunger Games, by Collins, was published by Scholastic Press in September of 2008. The novel was written by Collins. The Greek epic tale of Prince Theseus and his quest to fight the Minotaur served as inspiration for the final installment in a trilogy. The novel was the kickoff to a trilogy. In the two years that followed, she published “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” concluding the “Hunger Games” trilogy.

The unprecedented success of The Hunger Games trilogy catapulted Collins to fame. The novels were so well received that they remained on ‘The New Year Times’ best-sellers list for an unprecedented sixty consecutive weeks. The first novel was turned into a film by its creator, and Lions Gate Entertainment was responsible for distributing the picture. This famous author won the “Children’s Novel Award” from the “New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association” (or “NAIBA”) in 2004 for their book The Underland Chronicles.

The Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, honored this prolific writer with the 2006 award for “Notable Children’s Recording.” The American Library Association gave the prize to the writer. In 2008, “The Hunger Games” was named “Best Young Adult Book” by “The Kirkus Review.” In the same year, Collins’s work was honored with the CYBIL Award in the “Fantasy and Science Fiction” category. Collins was the recipient of this honor. After waiting two years, in 2011, she was awarded the California Young Reader Medal, following the Georgia Peach Book Awards for Teen Readers she received in 2009.

Suzanne and her husband Charles Pryor have been together since 1992 and are proud parents to children Charlie and Isabel. The family has settled in the New Town neighborhood of Connecticut known as Sandy Hook. Those who view The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes with the assumption that it will be quite similar to the previous two Hunger Games movies may be pleasantly surprised.

Director Francis Lawrence is coming back for another installment, but this time the story will have more political and romantic undertones. In stark contrast to this is Katniss’s narrative of her fight for survival and the chaos that erupted around her. It’s not hard to see how the series’ tone and the movies’ ability to probe how difficult the Hunger Games were for the tributes who participated could contribute to the franchise’s success. Despite the fact that the story went outside the confines of the survival competition, the films nevertheless managed to pack in a lot of action.

The prequel will need to shift the emphasis of a substantial chunk of the book to depict Lucy Gray’s point of view during the 10th Hunger Games due to the general belief that the book would be organized in the same fashion as the first four films in the Hunger Games franchise. Suzanne Collins never gave her readers a glimpse of what was going on in Lucy’s thoughts or an opportunity to experience the Hunger Games from her perspective.

Once the tournament began, Snow’s perspective was the only one visible by the cameras, and he had complete control over what was shown. Directly adapting The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will likely disappoint fans of The Hunger Games film who wanted to see more of Rachel Zegler’s character Lucy Gray and the other tributes as they competed in the game and the subsequent action. Therefore, it is suggested that the cinematic prequel to The Hunger Games alter the original material so that it concentrates on Lucy Gray’s point of view during her struggle to stay alive.
