Mari Cooper born June 17, 199 is an American football wide receiver for the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys (NFL). He attended the University of Alabama, where he was the Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation’s top receiver and a unanimous All-American. Cooper went to Miami Northwestern Senior High School, which is located in Miami, Florida.

He missed much of the season as a junior due to an injury, but he still managed to be one of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s primary targets, with 16 catches for 175 yards and four touchdowns. Cooper was a 7-on-7 juggernaut on various college campuses prior to his senior year. He put on a show at Alabama’s summer camp, which led to an offer from Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.

He had 33 receptions for 722 yards and six touchdowns in his final season. He was a first-team FHSAA 8A All-State selection and ranked fourth on the Orlando Sentinel’s Florida Top 100. He was also invited to play in 2012 Under Armour All-America Game, where he caught a 75-yard touchdown pass and returned a 93-yard punt for a touchdown. Cooper was a standout in basketball and track at Miami Northwestern, in addition to football.



Cooper was widely regarded as a four-star prospect. He was ranked 45th in the Rivals100, and Rivals.com ranked him as the number-six wide receiver and number-eight player in Florida. ESPNU ranked him as the nation’s seventh-best wideout and 46th-best overall prospect in the ESPNU 150, as well as 25th in the ESPNU Southeast Top 100 and 12th in Florida247Sports.com, ranked him as the number-six wide receiver and the number-10 player in the state of Florida while ranking him 55th in the Top247.

Scout.com ranked him as the nation’s 12th best pass catcher and 86th overall prospect. Among other schools, he chose Alabama over Florida State, Miami, and Ohio State. On September 22, 2011, Cooper announced his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama. Freshman season in college Cooper appeared in all 14 games as a freshman at Alabama, including nine starts. With 59 receptions for 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns, he led the team.

The 11 touchdowns broke Al Lary’s 62-year-old record. His receptions and receiving yards broke Julio Jones’ freshman records at Alabama. In the 32–28 victory over Georgia in the SEC Championship, he had eight receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown.  Cooper led all Alabama receivers with six catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns in Alabama’s 42–14 victory over Notre Dame in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.

Cooper was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by the league coaches after earning consensus Freshman All-American honors.  Sophomore year Cooper appeared in 12 games with seven starts as a sophomore in 2013, missing two due to injury. He had 45 receptions for 736 yards and four touchdowns, which led the team.

In the Iron Bowl against Auburn, he had his best game of the season, recording six receptions for 178 yards, including a school-record 99-yard touchdown reception from quarterback AJ McCarron In the 45–31 loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl, he had nine receptions for 121 yards.

His set numerous single-season and career records for Alabama as a junior in 2014.  Against Tennessee, he broke Alabama’s single-game receiving yardage record with 224 yards. He later equaled the mark against Auburn. Cooper set a school record with 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns. Furthermore, his 124 receptions set an SEC record. He established himself as Alabama’s all-time leader in receptions (228), receiving yards (3,463), and receiving touchdowns Cooper was a Heisman Trophy finalist, finishing third behind Marcus Mariota and Melvin Gordon.

That season, he won the Biletnikoff Award and was named a unanimous All-American. Cooper was named a 2015us All-American after his junior season in 2014. The Oakland Raiders selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, widely regarded as the top wide receiver prospect in the draught. Cooper struggled in his third season with the Raiders, totaling only 680 yards after successful rookie and sophomore seasons that included back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and two Pro Bowl appearances.


He was traded to the Cowboys midway through the 2018 season, and his play began to flourish again, including a 217-yard performance, and he was voted to his third Pro Bowl. In his second game, against the Baltimore Ravens, he had 109 yards receiving, including his first touchdown on a 68-yard pass from Derek Carr.

In week 3, he set a franchise rookie record with eight receptions for 134 yards in a 27–20 win over the Cleveland Browns, becoming the Raiders’ first receiver with consecutive 100-yard receiving games since Randy Moss in 2005.  His 290 receiving yards in three games ranked third all-time in NFL history. Cooper broke Tim Brown’s rookie reception record on November 8, 2015, in a 35–38 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Cooper became the first Oakland Raider rookie in franchise history to reach 1,000 yards on December 20, 2015, and the only receiver in the club to do so since Randy Moss in 2005.

His five 100-yard receiving games and 72 receptions are also franchise rookie records. Cooper was selected as an alternate for the Pro Bowl on December 22, 2015, alongside teammates Derek Carr and Latavius Murray; he replaced Brandon Marshall and played. In a 34–31 victory over the San Diego Chargers in Week 5, he had six receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 8, he had his best game of the season, with 12 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown in a 30–24 overtime victory.  He had 83 receptions for 1,153 yards and five touchdowns.

Cooper was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl on December 20, 2016. Cooper had three straight games with fewer than ten receiving yards after having 33 yards in week two.  Cooper, on the other hand, caught 11 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a 31–30 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football in week 7. His yardage was the most by any NFL player at that point in the 2017 season, the second-most in franchise history, and the first 200-yard game in franchise history since 1965

Cooper was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after his outstanding performance in Week 7. Cooper had three receptions for 66 yards and a 63-yard touchdown during a Christmas Day (19–10) loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Cooper caught three passes for 115 yards and an 87-yard touchdown in the season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers in a 30–10 loss. He was later revealed to have struggled throughout the second half of the season with an ankle injury that hampered his play. Cooper finished the 2017 season with a career-low 48 receptions for 680 yards but a career-high seven receiving touchdowns 2018 season.


The Raiders exercised Cooper’s fifth-year option on April 22, 2018. Cooper caught eight passes for 128 yards and a touchdown in a 45–42 overtime win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 4.  Cooper suffered a concussion and was knocked unconscious in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks in London. The Raiders went on to lose 27–3.

Dallas Cowboys 2018 season Cooper was traded to the Dallas Cowboys on October 22, 2018, in exchange for a first-round pick (27th overall, Johnathan Abram) in the 2019 NFL Draft. Cooper led the Cowboys with five receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown in his first game with the team on November 5, as the Cowboys fell to the Tennessee Titans by a score of 28–14.

Cooper had eight receptions for 180 yards and two touchdowns on Thanksgiving Day, including a 90-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, as the Cowboys defeated the Washington Redskins 31–23. For his efforts, he was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. Cooper had 10 catches for a career-high 217 yards and three touchdowns in week 14 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
