Azim Hashim Premji is a business magnate, businessman, engineer, and philanthropist from India. He previously served as the chairman of Wipro Limited. He founded the Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organisation, in 2001. In December 2010, he promised a US$2 billion donation to India’s education system. This was accomplished by converting 213 million equity shares of Wipro Ltd to the Azim Premji Trust from a few institutions owned by him. This is the biggest donation of its kind in India.

He was ranked third richest individual in India by Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with an approximate net worth of US$31.3 billion. By signing The Giving Pledge in 2013, he committed to giving away at least half of his money. Premji began with a $2.2 billion gift to the Azim Premji Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing education in India. He was named to the 2020 EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List.
Azim Premji tops the list of “India’s most charitable” released on 10 November 2020 by Hurun India and EdelGive. He donated Rs 7,904 crore in the fiscal year 2019-20, a 17-fold increase over the Rs 453 crore he donated in the fiscal year 2018. Education is the principal beneficiary of his contributions
