B L Santhosh was born in Hiriadka, Udupi district, Karnataka, India. On July 15, 2019, Bommarabettu Laxmijanardhana Santhosh has served as the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Santhosh served as the BJP’s General Secretary in the Karnataka state unit for eight years before being elected national joint general secretary in-charge of southern states by Amit Shah in 2014. He is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s second-most strong official.
Santhosh is from the Karnataka town of Shivamogga. In Davanagere, Karnataka, he studied engineering at the Govt. BDT College of Engineering. Santhosh, a chemical engineer by profession, has been a full-time employee of RSS since 1993. He is multilingual, speaking English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Tulu.
Santhosh chose not to marry because the RSS philosophy influenced him too much. Instead, he dedicated his life to the Sangh Parivar and held various important positions in the organization in Southern India.
Santosh began his career in the RSS as a Pracharak in 1993. He served in Mysuru, Shivamogga, and eventually Bangalore. In the early 2000s, he returned to Shivamogga. He joined the BJP as the Karnataka General Secretary in 2006. He held the position until 2014. Between 2008 and 2013, the BJP was also in control.
Santosh was named as the BJP’s Joint General Secretary (Organization) in 2014. He was promoted to General Secretary (Organization) of the BJP in 2019. He is credited with spotting and grooming young leaders in Karnataka, including Pratap Simha and Tejasvi Surya.
Santosh is said to have a lot of power in the Karnataka BJP and within the BJP high command at the national level, according to his critics. People point to the fact that the BJP appointed two unknown faces, Ashok Gasti and Eranna Kadadi, to the Rajya Sabha in June 2020, much against the Chief Minister’s wishes.
In February 2020, Santhosh made international headlines when he suggested that the party may be “compelled” to intervene in the US presidential elections.
