DaBaby is an American rapper and songwriter born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk. He is most recognised for the commercial success of his self-titled debut studio album, ‘Baby on Baby.’ DaBaby was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the youngest of his parents’ three children.

Even as an adolescent, he had run-ins with the law. He graduated from Charlotte’s ‘Zebulon B. Vance High School.’ He has been interested in music since he was a child, but took a significant interest in becoming a rapper in 2014. He soon began rapping under the moniker “Baby Jesus.” DaBaby rose to notoriety following the release of his debut mixtape, ‘Nonfiction,’ in 2015. However, he had his true breakthrough in 2016 with the publication of his single ‘Light Show.’

The tune amassed millions of views on music-streaming websites. DaBaby continued to release mixtapes on a regular basis during the next few years. The ‘Baby Talk’ cassette series proved fairly popular with the general public. DaBaby stated in early 2019 that he has secured a record deal with ‘Interscope Records.’

In March 2019, he released his debut major-label album, ‘Baby on Baby.’ The album received widespread critical acclaim and economic success.DaBaby was born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 22, 1991. He was the family’s youngest child and grew up with two elder brothers.

He credits his brothers for influencing his musical tastes. He was a fan of Eminem, Kanye West, 50 Cent, and Lil Wayne. Despite being a child music fan, DaBaby was never particularly interested in pursuing a career in music.

When DaBaby was six years old, the family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. The neighbourhood was deplorable. As a result, DaBaby found himself surrounded by street thugs. As a youth, he committed little crimes.

He was arrested multiple times by local police for offences such as driving with a forged licence and having marijuana. He was in and out of prison while also completing his high school degree at Charlotte, North Carolina’s ‘Zebulon B. Vance High School.’By his early twenties, he had begun to consider a career in music. Prior to that, he worked odd jobs, some of them illegal, to earn money.

He had a significant psychological turnaround in 2014, when he chose to abandon his life of crime. He also had a greater awareness of his responsibilities as a member of society. According to him, he became immersed in music in order to assist others through his words and poems.

He first went by the moniker “Baby Jesus,” but later changed it to “DaBaby” due to its religious connotations. He began work on his debut mixtape in December 2014. DaBaby released his debut mixtape, ‘Nonfiction,’ in 2015. It was judged amateurish and failed to pique the interest of music enthusiasts. DaBaby, undeterred by the negative response to his debut mixtape, continues to work on his next effort, another mixtape.

He also lacked stage experience. Charlotte, North Carolina, also lacked a vibrant rap music scene. As a result, DaBaby sought alternatives. He relocated to Austin, Texas, in the spring of 2015 to participate in the ‘South by Southwest Music Festival.’ There, he demonstrated his mettle by performing live on a number of his mixtape tracks.

He received positive feedback during the festival and then released another mixtape, titled ‘God’s Work: Resurrected,’ in 2016. He was able to recruit Boosie Badazz to work with him.

With the release of this mixtape, he adopted the moniker “DaBaby.” In a brief introduction to the mixtape, he claimed that he changed his stage identity for political reasons.

The mixtape ‘God’s Work: Resurrected’ performed significantly better than his first and garnered widespread notice. DaBaby often released his tracks and albums independently, via online platforms such as ‘SoundCloud,’ where he amassed a sizable fan base over the years.

DaBaby followed up with numerous more mixtapes, including ‘Billion Dollar Baby’ and ‘Back on My Baby Jesus Sht.’He gained popularity with each new track. He also garnered success with his mixtape series titled ‘Baby Talk.’

In January 2017, he released the first instalment of his ‘Baby Talk’ mixtape. It is, without a doubt, his most commercially successful tape to date. The next year, he released three additional instalments. Each was a success. He also performed live at the ‘South by Southwest Music Festival’ that year.

One single stood out above the rest from his mixtapes. The tune, titled ‘Light Show,’ was released in 2016 and quickly became a huge success. The song amassed enormous popularity on ‘SoundCloud,’ ‘Datpiff,’ and ‘YouTube,’ establishing DaBaby as an internet celebrity. He released ‘Baby Talk 5’ in June 2018, the final instalment of the ‘Baby Talk’ series. In November of that year, he released another popular mixtape, ‘Blank Blank.’

In early 2019, he struck a deal with ‘Interscope Records,’ one of the country’s largest music labels.Additionally, he claimed that he was working on his self-titled debut studio album, titled ‘Baby on Baby.’ The album, which was published in March 2019, featured thirteen tracks. It included a variety of well-known artists as guests, including Offset, Rich Homie Quan, and Rich the Kid.

The album was an instant hit, debuting at #25 on the ‘Billboard 200’ list and eventually climbing to #7. The album’s lead track, titled ‘Suge,’ was a great hit with listeners, reaching the eighth slot on the ‘US Billboard Hot 100.’The album was well received by critics, with ‘Pitchfork’ awarding it a 7.7/10.
