Elon Musk and his brother set up Zip2, a software company, in 1995. He sold it in 1999 and became a millionaire. Then he started X.com, which integrated with the company Confinity to make PayPal. X.com was then renamed PayPal and focused on growing that part of the company. He started SpaceX and became Tesla’s CEO.
Musk was born to a Canadian mother, a South African-born British father, in Pretoria, South Africa. His parents divorced in 1980, and most of the time he lived with his father in many distinct places in South Africa. He attended Waterkloof House Preparatory School and graduated from Pretoria Boys High School. He moved to Canada in 1988 when he was 17. After that, he was granted Canadian citizenship through his mother. He got it before the start of his South African military service. He felt it would be easier to immigrate from Canada to the United States than from South Africa.
He spent two years at Queen’s School of Business, Kingston, Ontario. He then moved to the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor of Economics degree from Wharton School. He stayed a year to finish his second degree in physics. He then moved to California to seek to get a Ph.D. in applied physics at Stanford, but after only two days left because he wanted to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations in the Internet, renewable energy, and outer space. He became a citizen of the United States in 2002.

Musk founded The Boring Company at the end of 2016 which focuses on tunneling and infrastructure. He described traffic in Los Angeles as the reason for starting this company. In March 2017, Elon Musk announced the launch of another company to merge human brains and computers, called Neuralink.
As of April 2016, he was worth more than $10 billion, making him the 37th wealthiest American. Musk is also known for helping to design and build the Falcon Heavy rocket, which was launched successfully on 6 February 2018.
