Ian Somerhalder is an actor, model, activist, and filmmaker from the United States. He is most known for his roles as Boone Carlyle in the TV drama Lost, Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries on The CW, and Dr. Luther Swann in Netflix’s sci-fi horror thriller V Wars.
Somerhalder featured in the short-lived WB sitcom Young Americans, a spin-off of Dawson’s Creek, in the summer of 2000. Hamilton Fleming, the son of the dean of a famous boarding school, was played by him. Somerhalder co-starred opposite James Van Der Beek, Shannyn Sossamon, and Jessica Biel in Roger Avary’s adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel The Rules of Attraction in 2002.
Somerhalder’s breakout role came in 2004 when he portrayed Boone Carlyle in the blockbuster TV program Lost. The first important character to die was Ian Somerhalder.
Somerhalder starred as an assassin in the 2009 film The Tournament, in which he competed against other assassins in a fatal tournament. He is included in celebrity photographer John Russo’s coffee table book About Face.
Somerhalder was cast as Vampire Damon Salvatore in The CW television drama series The Vampire Diaries as a series regular in June 2009. Since the network’s inception in 2006, the series premiere has received The CW’s highest debut ratings of any season premiere.
With both Somerhalder’s acting and the program garnering great reviews from reviewers, the series has remained the highest-rated series on its channel. In the third season of The Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder began directing the show, and in the eighth season, he became the show’s producer. For his role in the series, Somerhalder has won many Teen Choice Awards as well as a People’s Choice Award.
Somerhalder was cast in the film Time Framed, which had begun production in Los Angeles, in October 2012. Somerhalder was cast as Dr. Luther Swann, a season regular in the Netflix science fiction-horror series V Wars, in April 2018. The Netflix original series started on December 5, 2019, and ended in March 2020.
