KTR (Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao) is an Indian politician who now serves as Telangana’s Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Industries and Commerce, and Information Technology. Rao is the working president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and a member of the Legislative Assembly representing Sircilla.

Rao first entered politics in 2009, running for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Sircilla Assembly seat. He defeated independent candidate K. K. Mahender Reddy by a narrow margin of 171 votes.

Soon after, Rao and ten other TRS legislators resigned from the Legislative Assembly in favour of Telangana’s independence. In July 2010, the Andhra Pradesh High Court ordered the Election Commission of India to hold by-elections in Sircilla and Vemulawada, among other municipalities in Telangana. Rao ran from Sircilla again and defeated K. K. Mahender Reddy, this time by a margin of 68,219 votes.


Rao was sworn in as a Telangana Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Cabinet Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj on June 2, 2014. President and Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekhar Rao named him as Executive Working President of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Party (TRS).

In a review meeting of the Information Technology and Investment Region (ITIR) Policy shortly after taking office, Information Technology (IT) Minister K. T. Rama Rao informed the Chief Minister on large-scale projects for a progressive Hyderabad.

On January 19, 2015, Rao stated that a new Act will enhance Telangana’s village panchayats by bringing at least 29 government workers from various ministries to serve under the leadership of local sarpanches. He also stated that his government will establish special tribunals and ombudsmen to address accountability and grievances. Rao indicated that the government intends to spend Rs. 642 crore in 150 of Telangana’s most backward mandals by 2020 to improve livelihood and human development index.

On Sunday, November 5, 2017, Rao lay the foundation stone for the IMAGE Tower at Hyderabad Knowledge City, Raidurgam, Serilingampally mandal. The IMAGE Tower will be a world-class facility that will serve as a catalyst for the animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics industries in Telangana.
