Prashant Kishor is a political and business strategist from India. In September 2018, he joined the Janata Dal (United) as a political strategist. On January 29, 2020, he was suspended from the party for questioning party chief Nitish Kumar’s support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019). Kishor began his career in political strategy and business tactics at the United Nations, where he worked for eight years before pursuing a career in political strategy.
In 2013, Kishor founded Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG), a media and public relations firm, in anticipation of India’s general election in May 2014. Kishor is credited with devising Narendra Modi’s unique marketing and advertising strategy, which included Chai pe Charcha talks, 3D rallies, Run for Unity, Manthan, and social media programmes.
Kishor was one of the most significant members in Modi’s team pushing tactics for months before the 2014 elections, according to Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay, author of ‘Narendra Modi: The Man, The Times.’ After parting relations with Modi, Kishor transformed the (CAG) into the Indian Political Action Committee, a specialist policy organisation (I-PAC).
Kishor and other CAG members formed I-PAC in 2015 to cooperate with Nitish Kumar in a bid to gain a third term as Chief Minister of Bihar in the 2015 Assembly Elections. According to the accusations, Kishor had a significant impact on the campaign’s strategy, resources, and relationships.
Kishor was engaged by the Congress in 2016 for the 2017 Punjab Assembly Elections to assist Amarinder Singh’s campaign after the Congress lost two consecutive Assembly elections in Punjab. Kishor and his crew have been recognised by TV stations like Zee News for their victory in Punjab. Several Congress officials, including Randeep Surjewala and Shankersinh Vaghela, have publicly credited Kishor for the victory.
Kishor was hired by Congress in 2016 for the 2017 UP elections. The Congress and Kishor, on the other hand, were a disaster in these elections, as the BJP gained almost 300 seats while the Congress only managed seven.
In the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election, Kishor served as the Aam Aadmi Party’s electoral strategist. In the elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won a landslide victory, taking 62 out of 70 seats.
Opposition leaders Jitan Ram Manjhi, Upendra Kushwaha, and Mukesh Sahni met with Kishor in Delhi in February 2020, ahead of the October-November 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. Kishor, on the other hand, stated that he would not support any political party and that he would reach out to 10 lakh young people in 100 days to support his Baat Bihar Ki campaign, which aims to make Bihar one of the country’s top ten states.
For the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, Kishor has been recruited as an advisor to the All India Trinamool Congress. His clever plan enabled the All India Trinamool Congress to improve its performance in the 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election and form government once more. Kishor was named as Amarinder Singh’s key advisor in March 2021. He has been elevated to the rank of Cabinet Minister.
