Usain Bolt is a retired Jamaican sprinter who is largely regarded as the best of all time. Bolt was given the opportunity to demonstrate his talents on a global scale in the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, in front of a home audience. He had grown to 1.96 metres in height by the age of 15, and he stood out among his contemporaries in terms of physical appearance.
He won the 200 metres in 20.61 seconds, 0.03 seconds slower than his personal best of 20.58 seconds recorded in the preliminary round. Bolt became the youngest world junior gold medalist in history with his victory in the 200 metres. He had been so tense because of the home crowd’s anticipation that he had mistakenly put his shoes on the incorrect feet, which he noticed before the race started.
At the 2003 CARIFTA Games, he won four gold medals and was named the Austin Sealy Trophy’s most outstanding athlete. At the 2003 World Youth Championships, he took home yet another gold medal. Bolt broke his second world record of 9.69 seconds in 2009 with a time of 9.58 seconds, the largest improvement since electronic clocking began. He established the world record for the 200 metres twice, in 2008 and 2009, with times of 19.30 and 19.19. He has assisted Jamaica in setting three world marks in the 4 x 100 metre relay, the most recent of which was established in 2012 in 36.84 seconds. Bolt’s most successful event is the 200 metres, which he has won three Olympic championships and four World titles in. He had previously won several 200 m gold and owns the global under-20 and world under-18 records in the race. He made his international debut over 100 metres at the 2008 Olympics.
His accomplishments as a sprinter have given him the moniker “Lightning Bolt” in the media, and he has won several honours, including the IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Track & Field Athlete of the Year, BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year, and Laureus World Sportsman of the Year (four times). Following finishing third in his last solo 100 m event, opting out of the 200 m, and pulling up in the 4100 m relay final, Bolt announced his retirement after the 2017 World Championships.
