Vidyut Jammwal is an Indian stunt performer and actor. Jammwal made his Bollywood debut in the 2011 film Force, starring John Abraham and based on the Tamil blockbuster Kaakha Kaakha. He had a bad part in the film and was nominated for several best debut honours, including the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut, among others. After starting his career with a negative part in Force, Jammwal went on to play a number of negative characters in action films.
Jammwal appeared in the Telugu films Shakti and Oosaravelli, both starring NTR, in negative roles in 2011. Jammwal made his Tamil film debut in 2012 with Billa II, in which he played the antagonist opposite Ajith Kumar and received critical acclaim. In the same year, he co-starred with Vijay in the hit Thuppakki as the antagonist. For the film, he also won a SIIMA Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role.
In his second Hindi film, Commando, he starred as the protagonist and performed real-life fighting scenes without the use of stuntmen. The film was originally shown globally in July 2013 at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and then again in September 2013 at the Fantastic Fest in Texas. International media and action directors praised him, describing him as India’s equivalent to Bruce Lee and Tony Jaa.
Following the success of Commando, he starred in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullett Raja as a sniper cop. In 2014, he co-starred with Suriya in the Tamil film Anjaan as a supporting positive character. In 2017, he starred in the sequel to Commando, Commando 2, which was a box office hit. The film Baadshaho, in which he played Army Officer Major Seher Singh, was his second release that year, and it performed mediocre business globally.
Jammwal made his Bollywood debut in 2019 with Junglee and Commando 3, directed by American filmmaker Chuck Russell. The latter saw him return to the Commando series, and it was the franchise’s most profitable picture. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara, an approved adaptation of the French film Les Lyonnais, was his next effort.
Vidyut signed on for three films, two of which were big format pictures directed by Ram Madhvani and had a similar vibe to the Hollywood blockbuster 300. In the year 2020, he starred in the action thriller Khuda Haafiz, which was based on true occurrences. The film was his most successful opening ever, and a sequel, Khuda Haafiz Chapter II, was announced with the same cast. Sanak, an action thriller, is one of his next projects.
