It was an audition for the Ardenne High School talent event at Kingston’s Ardenne High School. Koffee won. In her high school chorus, she learns music theory and vocal technique. 2016 was the year that all of this occurred.

In 2017, Koffee released her debut single, an homage to Usain Bolt, which quickly went viral. The rest of the story, they say, is a piece of the past. It is estimated that Koffee has a net worth of one million dollars. As someone who started with nothing, her value has grown with time. As a rising star in the music industry, she has a lot of money to spend.

At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Koffee was awarded Best Reggae Album for her 2019 EP Rapture, making her the youngest and only female recipient of the accolade.

Koffee (or Original Koffee) is a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, rapper, deejay, and guitarist from Spanish Town, Jamaica, born Mikayla “Koffee” Simpson on February 16, 2000. The song “Burning” was released in 2017 and she signed with Columbia Records in 2019. Rapture, her debut EP from this year, took home the Best Reggae Album Grammy at the 62nd Grammy Awards. Koffee is the only woman and the youngest individual to win a Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.

Koffee’s mother worked for the Ministry of Health and was a Seventh-day Adventist actor on the side. First, Koffee was inspired by her mother’s religious upbringing. She began creating songs after hearing reggae musician Protoje, who she discovered while singing in her church choir at the age of 12. Ardenne High School in Kingston, Jamaica, was her scholastic alma mater.

Without knowing it, she won the school talent competition at Kingston, Jamaica’s Ardenne High School in 2016, without recognising that the informal show she performed at in her school cafeteria had been an audition. She was a member of the high school chorus, where she learned music theory and vocal technique. In her senior year of high school, Koffee performed in front of roughly 1,000 people in her school’s talent event with other talented performers. She said that the performance was the first time she felt comfortable enough to play and deliver songs live.

Her mother’s religious upbringing was one of Koffee’s earliest sources of artistic inspiration. She began creating songs after hearing reggae musician Protoje, who she discovered while singing in her church choir at the age of 12.

After posting a video of herself singing to Instagram, Koffee became well-known. First song “Legend” was published in 2017 with her vocals and acoustic guitar. The song, an homage to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, became viral on Instagram after the athlete uploaded it on his own account. In addition to Protoje and Chronixx, she has listed Super Cat and Giggs as musical inspirations because of the violence and societal difficulties she encountered as a child.

In addition to performing with her musical influences Protoje and Chronixx, Cocoa Tea introduced Koffee at the Rebel Salute reggae festival. A cover of Upsetta Records’ Ouji Riddim (made popular by Jamaican singers Busy Signal and Luciano) followed, dubbed “Burning”. As a result of her disappointment at not being accepted into post-secondary Sixth Form after graduating from Ardenne High School, “Burning” was born. The Foundation Radio Network’s Top 30 Reggae Chart, which covers New York City and South Florida, had her at the top for three weeks in June.

This year, Cocoa Tea brought her to perform at the 2018 Rebel Salute and Rototom Sunsplash reggae festivals in both Jamaica and Spain. She was invited to perform with Protoje. Tuff Gong Studios, where she was invited to join him for a BBC Radio 1Xtra broadcast from Tuff Gong Studios, Bush Hall and Alexandra Palace. On November 10, BBC Music Introducing…LIVE featured Koffee and Chronixx. The song “Raggamuffin” by Koffee, released in December 2018, was a protest song against gun violence and government mistreatment of young people. “Hot for 2019” artists were selected by BBC Radio 1Xtra. “Toast” was produced by (izybeats) and (Walshy Fire) of Major Lazer for her upcoming track. The video features appearances by Chronixx and Protoje. For his International Fargo project in 2019, Tory Lanez reworked “Toast” and posted it on SoundCloud.

Rapture and Columbia Records UK also signed her in 2018. On March 14, 2019, she released her first EP on the label. On January 22, 2019, her “Throne” video premiered on The Fader, which takes viewers on a tour through her hometown of Spanish Town, Jamaica.
