Lee Min-ho is a South Korean actor, singer, and model who was born on June 22, 1987. His work as Gu Jun-pyo in Boys Over Flowers (2009) brought him international acclaim, as well as the Best New Actor award at the 45th Baeksang Arts Awards. Personal Taste (2010), City Hunter (2011), The Heirs (2013), Legend of the Blue Sea (2016), and The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) are among his major lead performances in television series. Aside from his work on television, Lee played the first lead in the film Gangnam Blues (2015). Following that, he made his first China-produced picture Bounty Hunters (2016), which grossed US$31 million, and the US$20 million mini-romance web series Line Romance (2014).

Lee has established himself as a top Hallyu celebrity because to the popularity of his television series; he is the most followed South Korean actor on social media. Lee was the first Korean star to have a Madame Tussauds wax figure created in his likeness, with figures exhibited in Shanghai in 2013 and Hong Kong in 2014.

Lee began auditioning and was cast in smaller roles in a number of television dramas, including Nonstop 5 and Recipe of Love. Secret Campus, an EBS series, was his formal debut role (2003). Lee used the stage name Lee Min early in his career since his agency thought his given name was too common. He later claimed that it was difficult to find himself in internet search results because his stage name was pronounced and spelled in the same way as the Korean word “imin,” which signifies “immigration.” He eventually reverted to his previous name.

In 2009, Lee made his breakthrough as Gu Jun-pyo in KBS’ Boys Over Flowers, a Korean version of the popular Shjo manga of the same name. The competition for the major role was fierce, and Lee only learned about his casting through the tabloids. During its broadcast, the series received great ratings and generated a lot of attention in South Korea. Lee’s newfound fame landed him a slew of endorsement deals and sparked a new Korean Wave across Asia, transforming him into a Hallyu superstar.

Lee also announced his comeback to television with The Heirs, a teen drama penned by Kim Eun-sook, in which he will star. The Heirs, which premiered on October 9, 2013, was a huge hit both domestically (with a peak rating of 28.6%) and internationally (with over one billion hits on the Chinese streaming service iQiyi). Lee’s fame skyrocketed, especially in China.

In January 2014, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong debuted a second wax statue of Lee. Lee became the first Korean celebrity to perform at China’s CCTV Lunar New Year Gala on January 30. He sang a duet with Harlem Yu, the original vocalist of the Meteor Garden (Taiwanese version of Boys Over Flowers) theme song. He was also invited as the entertainment industry’s representative to the third meeting of the South Korean Presidential Committee for Cultural Enrichment to share and contribute to the debate of topics linked to developing Korea’s cultural material. For his contribution to Hallyu, Lee got the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 5th Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards.

Lee’s acting career was put on pause for a year in 2006 after he was involved in a serious vehicle accident while riding with fellow actor Jung Il-woo and two other pals. The group of friends were heading to Gangwon Province when a car fleeing from a prior hit-and-run collided with them head-on, shattering the hood and engine of their vehicle. Lee and Jung, who were seated in the back of the automobile, were critically injured in the crash. Both of their buddies, who were in the front seat of the automobile, died instantly. Lee was gravely injured and spent a month in a coma, following which he was bedridden for several months. He suffered broken ribs, thigh and ankle fractures, as well as a rupture in his knee cartilage. A 46-centimeter metal pin was put in his thigh as part of his treatment, making one of his legs shorter than the other. Lee Min-ho started his mandatory military service as a public service officer at the Suseo Social Welfare Centre in Gangnam District Office on May 12, 2017. Due to an automobile accident in August 2006, Lee was unable to serve as an active duty soldier. In 2011, while filming City Hunter, he was involved in another vehicle accident.
