Mahesh Babu is an Indian actor, producer, media personality, and philanthropist. He is one of Telugu’s most highly paying film actors.

Mahesh Babu Biography:

Mahesh Babu was born in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India, on 9 August 1975. He’s the fourth of the five children of Telugu actor Krishna and Indira. His childhood was spent mainly in Madras, under the care of his maternal grandma Durgamma and the rest of his family.

He was educated at the Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in St. Bede, Chennai. Babu was a student above average. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Loyola College, Chennai. He met with director L after graduation. Satyanand in Vishakhapatnam for further training in acting, which lasted from three to four months. Failed to read and write Telugu, he memorized the dialogues that his directors had provided during the dubbing process of his films.

Family:

It was during the shoot of B. Gopal’s Vamsi in Australia, Babu started dating Namrata Shirodkar, his co-star. After being in a relationship for four years, they agreed to marry, and Manjula persuaded Krishna in favor of their decision. They were married at the Marriott Hotel in Mumbai on 10 February 2005 during the filming of Athadu. The couple welcomed their first child, a boy, at the Global Hospital in Hyderabad on 31 August 2006. The child, Gautham Krishna, was a premature baby and was in critical condition during his birth. Since the doctors examined him in time, his condition became stable. Namrata gave birth to a girl named Sitara on 20 July 2012.

Telugu actress and filmmaker Vijaya Nirmala is Babu’s step-mother, and Naresh is his step-brother. Babu’s elder sister’s name is Padmavathi. She is married to Galla Jayadev. Babu’s younger sister’s name is Priyadarshini. She is married to Sudheer Babu, who is an actor in Telugu.

Career:

Early career and breakthrough (1979–2003)

Needa made his debut as a child actor. After seeing Babu on the set during the shooting of Poratam, director Kodi Ramakrishna suggested to Krishna that he put Babu in the role of the brother of the protagonist. Initially afraid, after being convinced by the crew of the film, Babu decided to act in the film. He also worked as a child artist in the films Shankharavam (1987), Mugguru Kodukulu (1988), and Gudachari 117 (1989). Then Babu appeared in Bala Chandrudu (1990) and Anna Thammudu (1990). Later, he continued his studies at the college.

In 1999, Babu made his debut as a leading actor with the film Raja Kumarudu. The film was commercially popular, and people started to refer to it with the title Prince. He was awarded the Nandi Award for Best Male Debut. The following year, he appeared in two films – Yuvaraju and Vamsi. After their disappointing success at the box office, the next year Babu starred in the Murari of Krishna Vamsi. In his career, he called Murari an important film and the role he played in it was one of his favorites. Murari was a commercial success and won him the Nandi Special Jury Award. Babu was awarded his second Nandi Special Jury Award for his performance.

Babu had two film releases in 2003, the first of which was Gunasekhar’s Okkadu co-starring Bhumika Chawla, which later became Telugu’s highest-grossing film of the year. He received his first film fare award for Best Actor – Telugu for his film success. The second release was Teja’s Nijam co-starring Rakshita. Mainstream film acclaim and success (2004–2010)

Manjula made his next film, Naani, directed by S. J. Surya is co-starring Amisha Patel. Although its simultaneously shot Tamil version New featuring a different cast was commercially successful, Naani floated in the box office. He was awarded the Nandi Special Jury Award for his performance in his next film, Arjun. The failure of Naani disappointed both Babu and Manjula, who had taken a brief break in Goa before resuming their other obligations. Athadu is one of the biggest movies of the year. For the second time, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu. The same year, his next film, Sainikudu, co-starring Trisha, was released in the midst of high expectations but floated in the box office.

The following year, Babu starred in the film Athidhi, co-starring Amrita Rao, marking her Telugu debut. The film was produced by Ramesh’s brother Mahesh Babu. In 2008, Babu gave a voice-over to the film Jalsa directed by Trivikram Srinivas.

After Athidhi’s launch, Babu took a seven-month break from the movies; two months later, he signed Khaleja, but the break was accidentally prolonged for two years due to many delays. Babu’s grandma and his wife Namrat’s parents died during this time. Krishna was concerned about the career of Babu as the shooting of the film had been delayed for too long. Upon completion, Khaleja received mixed reviews from critics and was a trade failure in India. However, it was able to perform well in the overseas box office.


Stardom and career setback (2011–2014)

In 2011, Babu collaborated with Srinu Vaitla on the film Dookudu. Dookudu had the biggest opening for a Telugu film. The Los Angeles Times called Dookudu the “biggest hit you’ve never heard of” Babu received the Best Actor Award at the 2012 Nandi Awards ceremony for his performance in the film. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 59th Filmfare Awards South and 1st South Indian Foreign Movie Awards.

Later, he played the role of a mafia kingpin with a secret personal agenda in the film Businessman, starring Kajal Aggarwal and directed by Puri Jagannadh. Babu was declared the second most highly paid actor in South India after Rajinikanth.

He won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 61st South Filmfare Awards ceremony and the 3rd South Indian Foreign Movie Awards ceremony. The same year, he gave voice-overs to Srinu Vaitla’s Baadshah.

Resurgence and recent work (2015–present)

Released on 7 August 2015, Srimanthudu opened to positive reviews by critics, was commercially successful, and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 63rd Filmfare Awards South, marking his resurgence.

The film was a commercial success, becoming the second-highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, and the highest-grossing Telugu-language-only film. Babu himself has taken over his native village, Burripalem.

Mahesh Babu is considered to be one of the most famous actors in Telugu cinema. His success has been recorded in a number of Telugu films, including Ashta Chamma (2008), Kiraak (2014), and Superstar Kidnap (2015). He joined Twitter in April 2010 and had 9.5 million followers as of May 2020. He was ranked twelfth in the Times’ 50 Most Attractive Men in India in 2010, fifth in 2011, and second in 2012. In 2013, he climbed to the top of the same chart, beating like Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan. Philanthropy:

Babu gives 30 percent of his annual profits to charitable organizations, and much of his philanthropy activities are unpublished since he wants to do so. He joined Farhan Akhtar’s Men Against Rape and Bigotry (MARD) movement in August 2013 and gave his voice to the Telugu version of a poem written by Javed Akhtar. It was signed in 2013 as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Heal-a-child Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to parents of terminally ill children to assist with medical care costs. In October 2014, $2.5 million was donated to a relief fund run by Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister for the rehabilitation of areas damaged during the Hudhud Cyclone. Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala later donated 2,5 million to the project.

Mahesh announced that he is working with Telangana’s Minister of Rural Development, K. T. Rama Rao is to adopt another village in the district of Mahbubnagar.

Controversy:

(a) The State Human Rights Commission lodged a lawsuit against him after endorsing the Royal Stag’s whisky ad commercial.

(b) After reports that he got a remuneration of about 1.2 million for his hit film Dookudu, the Income Tax Department raided his residence in Hyderabad.
