Nara Chandrababu Naidu, popularly known as CBN. He is an Indian politician and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He is the present leader of opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He is the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, who served from 2014 to 2019.
Naidu Biography:
Chandrababu Naidu was born on 20 April 1950 in the district of Chittoor, Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh. His father, Nara Kharjura Naidu, worked in agriculture. His mother, Amanamma, was a housewife. Naidu was the eldest child and he has two younger sisters and a brother.
He studied at various schools in the Seshapuram gram panchayat and Chandragiri. He went on to secure a Bachelor’s degree in economics from Tirupati’s S.V. Arts College. This was followed by a post-graduate degree. He was attracted to social and political causes during his college days. Naidu’s contemporaries at S.V. University included political figures such as K.S. Narayana and Pileru R. Reddy.
Political Career of Naidu:
His excellent leadership skills and participation in politics have made him the president of the local Youth Congress. The decisive turning point in his political career came when he contested and won the 1978 Assembly elections. At the age of 28, he was not only an MLA but also the youngest minister in the cabinet of the AP.
He was given the portfolio of professional education and filmmaking. His political influence was further enhanced in 1980 when he married Bhuvaneswari, the second daughter of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, better known as NTR – the iconic Telugu film star who later became Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister.
During his rule in the state in 1994, he became a tech-savvy chief minister with a management style of working. He came out with a “Vision 2020” for the state and said that he wanted to be regarded as the Chief Executive rather than the Chief Minister of State.
According to his vision paper, Andhra Pradesh would be a transformed state by 2020, and information technology would play a key role in this transformation. Specifically, he has drawn up ambitious plans to transform Hyderabad into an information technology hub. Most of these proposals have been implemented in his eight-plus years as CM. His picture was that of a hard-working CEO, analyzing data from computers in his office in the capital and behaving accordingly.
The World Bank was roped in as an adviser. Global leaders came to call, mostly making Hyderabad their second destination after New Delhi. He was praised by the international media. Several services and IT companies have set up shop in Hyderabad – or “Cyberabad” as it was sometimes called.
He led his party to victory in the 1999 Assembly elections, with the TDP winning 185 seats. His party suffered a major setback in 2004, winning only 49 seats. He pledged to restore his party and stage a comeback. The TDP improved its performance in the 2009 Assembly elections, while the Congress retained power in the state. Nevertheless, in the 2014 elections, he returned to power in coalition with the BJP.
