Nitin Gadkari is a famous politician in India. He’s from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Nitin Gadkari is serving as the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Narendra Modi Government.

Nitin Gadkari Biography:

Nitin Gadkari was born on 27 May 1957 in Nagpur, Bombay (now Maharashtra). The sign of his zodiac is Gemini. His full name is Nitin Jairam Gadkari. He did his schooling at the local Nagpur school. He has done his LL.B. fAnd M.Com from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, Maharashtra. He also holds a degree in Business Management.

Nitin Gadkari was born in a Brahmin Marathi family. His father’s name is Jairam Ramchandra Gadkari. He was a farmer. His mother’s name is Bhanutai Gadkari. She was a housewife. He’s got a sister, Manisha Kishor Totade, who’s married. He’s married to Kanchan Gadkari. He is a social worker. They have a daughter, Ketki Gadkari (Youngest), and two sons, Nikhil Gadkari (Eldest) and Sarang Gadkari. They’re all married.

Career:

Nitin Gadkari was interested in politics from a very young age. He entered Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1976. He was actively involved in the university student election, which resulted in ABVP winning all the seats of the Nagpur University student body. Gadkari organized the 28th ABVP National Convention in 1981 where he was elected President of Nagpur Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council by the Graduate Constituency in 1990. He was appointed Minister of Public Works (PWD) in the government of Maharashtra in 1995. From 1990 to 2008, he held his position as an MLC for four consecutive terms. In 1996, he became the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.

He was appointed President of the BJP Maharashtra in 2004. Gadkari was appointed National President of the BJP in December 2009. He held this position till January 2013 when Rajnath Singh was appointed National President of the BJP. He contested and won the Nagpur Constituency elections of Lok Sabha in 2014. He was enrolled into the Narendra Modi government as the Union Minister of Road & Highway Transport.

Gadkari received additional charges from the Ministry of Shipping and Water Resources and River Development and the Ministry of Rejuvenation of Ganga in September 2017 after the death of Union Minister Gopinath Munde. In 2019, he again contested and received the General Elections of the Nagpur Lok Sabha Constituency. He defeated his opponent, Congressman Nana Patole, with a margin of more than 2 Lakh votes. On 31 May 2019, he was appointed Minister of Road Transport, Highways & Shipping for the Union and Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Controversies:

1. The body of a young girl was found inside Gadkari’s car in November 2011. When researched, it was reported that she was the daughter of a house cleaner. The girl’s family asserted that she had been harassed and murdered, as there were 19 injury marks on her body. The doctors said she died of suffocation because she couldn’t get out of the car, and the marks on her body weren’t an assault. The girl’s family blamed Gadkari for using his position to influence the doctors and the police, as no action had been taken against Gadkari.

2. Gadkari was criticized by the Enforcement Directorate for money laundering and forgery in 2012. (ED). It was demonstrated that his company Purti Group had granted loans to a number of companies that had invested in the company. Further reports have demonstrated money laundering.

3. In 2014, Gadkari declared an end to the ban on e-rickshaws as public transport media highlighted out that his company, Purti Group, was involved in the production of e-rickshaws; it would directly benefit from the decision to end the ban. Later, he clarified that none of his companies were involved in the production of e-rickshaws.
