Professor Nageshwar Rao served as Vice Chancellor I/c of the Indira Gandhi National Open University in New Delhi from November 28, 2014, to April 28, 2016. He was also the Vice-Chancellor of Kumanyu University Nainital from November 1, 2016 to April 1, 2017. Between August 2008 and August 2011, he served as Vice-Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad, and from December 2013 to November 2014, he served as Pro Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.
He was a Professor at the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Business Management (Pt. JNIBM) Vikram University, Ujjain, from October 1990 to December 2013, where he also served as the Director of the institute for more than 13 years. Since November 2014, he has also served as the Vice-Chairman (Hon) of the Rastriya Uchhatar Shiksha Ayog (RUSA) in Madhya Pradesh. A special address on OER and online services was given in Malaysia on the invitation of the Asian Association of Open Universities. He served as Dean, Faculty of Management Studies at Vikram University Ujjain for five years, Dean, Faculty of Information Technology for one year, and Chairman, Board of Studies of Management for four terms.
He has more than 26 years of experience as a University Professor of Management. Between February 1985 and October 1990, he worked as a Reader in the Faculty of Management Studies at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, and between July 1978 and February 1985, he worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Allahabad in Allahabad. He obtained his D.Phil from the University of Allahabad and his ICWA kolkota from the College of Cost and Management Accountants of India, Kolkata, over the course of his career. He has received Gold Medals and a number of lucrative merit scholarships. He has published eight books that have aided academics. ‘Administration on Public Corporations in India’ and ‘Communication Skills’ are two of his best-selling books.
Under his guidance, 37 students have earned a Ph.D. in accounting. More than 170 Research Papers and journals have been written to his name. Around 25 EDPs (Executive Development Programmes) for Railways, NTPC, National Fertilizers, and other companies have invited him as a resource guy. He has attended over 100 global and regional management and allied disciplines workshops. He served on the Governing Council of the Association of Indian Universities for one year in 2010.
At Vikram University Ujjain, he served as Chairman of the Sports Board, Chief Warden of the Hostels, Dean of Students Welfare, Patron of Students Union, and In-charge Professor of the Ambedkar Peeth. He was also the Hon. Secretary of the University of Allahabad’s Institute of Gandhian Thought and Peace Studies. He was appointed by the Madhya Pradesh government as Director of the Board of Technical Examination Board in Bhopal for a four-year term. In addition, he served as the President of the Indian Accounting Association. On September 5, 2010, the Department of Higher Education of the Uttar Pradesh Government (India) awarded him the Saraswati Samman. Fellow Membership of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India, Kolkata, was also bestowed upon him.
