Rohit Sharma was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on April 30, 1987. Purnima Sharma, his mum, is from Visakhapatnam. Gurunath Sharma’s father worked as a caretaker at a transport firm’s warehouse. Sharma was raised in Borivali by his grandparents and uncles due to his father’s low wages. Only on weekends will he visit his parents, who lived in a one-room house in Dombivli. Vishal Sharma is his younger brother.

Rohit Sharma married Ritika Sajdeh, his friend, manager, and six-year girlfriend, on December 13, 2015, after being introduced to her by senior player Yuvraj Singh in 2008. They live in Ahuja Towers, Worli, Mumbai, in a four-bedroom flat.

Sharma used his uncle’s money to enroll in a cricket camp in 1999. Dinesh Lad, his camp mentor, advised him to go to Swami Vivekanand International School, where Lad was the coach and where the cricket facilities were better.

Sharma began his career as an off-spinner who could bat a little before Lad discovered his batting talent and moved him from number eight to the opening position. In the Harris and Giles Shield school cricket competitions, he was a standout performer, scoring a century on his debut as an opener.

In the Deodhar Trophy at Gwalior in March 2005, Sharma made his List A debut for West Zone against Central Zone. He scored 31 (not out) when batting at number eight as West Zone won by three wickets with 24 balls to spare. In the same match, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja made their debuts.

Sharma rose to prominence after an unbeaten 142 in 123 balls against North Zone at the Maharanna Bhupal College Ground in Udaipur during the same tournament. He traveled to Abu Dhabi and Australia with the India A squad before being named to India’s 30-man probables list for the ICC Champions Trophy. Despite this, he was not selected for the final team.

In July 2006, Sharma made his first-class debut for India A against New Zealand A in Darwin. As India prevailed by three wickets, he scored 57 and 22. In the 2006–07 season, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai, scoring 205 off 267 balls against Gujarat. In the final against Bengal, Sharma scored a half-century (57) in his second innings to help Mumbai win the tournament.

Sharma has played all of his domestic first-class cricket in Mumbai. In the Ranji Trophy against Gujarat in December 2009, he hit his best career score of 309 (not out). Following the retirement of Ajit Agarkar in October 2013, he was appointed team captain for the 2013–14 season.

Sharma has been the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2013, and the team has won the tournament five times under his leadership. He is currently one of ten players in the competition with 4,000 career runs (as of July 2019). Sharma is the third top run scorer after Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina with 4,898 runs and one century.

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score by a batsman in a one-day international match, with 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 13, 2014. In this type of international cricket, he is the only player to have scored three double-centuries. Sharma was awarded the ODI Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council in January 2020. (ICC).

Sharma became the first batsman to score two hundreds in a match on his first outing as an opening batsman on October 5, 2019, during a Test match against South Africa. He smashed Shimron Hetmyer’s record for most sixes in a Test series during the same series.
