Tejashwi Yadav

Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is an Indian politician and a former professional cricketer. He is now serving as the 5th and current Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, a position he has held since 2022. Yadav was born on November 9, 1989. In addition, he is the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Minister of Road Construction and Public Works Department, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, and Minister of Rural Works and Development in the Bihar Government. He also serves as the Minister of Rural Works and Development.

Yadav has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly since 2015, representing the Raghopur Assembly seat. He is the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, which is the single biggest political party in the state of Bihar. Additionally, he is the chairman of the Mahagathbandhan Alliance, which is the coalition that is now in power in the government. He was a member of the Jharkhand cricket team and the Delhi Daredevils during his time serving as a professional cricket player.

During the relevant periods, he has the distinction of being the youngest Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and the youngest Leader of the Opposition in India. Both of these accomplishments are noteworthy. The Indian Express’s “100 Most Powerful Indians” list included Yadav in both the year 2020 and the year 2021. Tejashwi Yadav was born on November 9, 1989, in Gopalganj, Bihar. His parents, Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav, were both members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and eventually became the Chief Ministers of Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav later became the Chief Minister of Bihar.

His siblings include seven sisters and two brothers, and he is the youngest of the nine children in the family. He started his education in Patna and subsequently traveled to Delhi, where he accompanied his oldest sister, Misa Bharti, who was attending medical school to get her Bachelor of Medicine degree. Yadav began his education in Delhi at the Delhi Public School in Vasant Vihar, where he attended elementary schools up till Class V.

According to the instructors at his school, he was a youngster who was awkward and reserved. Moreover, he served as the captain of the school’s cricket team. Beginning with the sixth grade, he started attending Delhi Public School, which is located in R. K. Puram. When asked about him, the principal of the school characterized him as an introvert who was also passionate about cricket. His participation in the school’s cricket squad earned him a spot on the Delhi U-15 cricket team as an all-rounder when he was just 13 years old.

During his first season, his colleagues said that he was important in their success, as they were able to win many events. Additionally, Virat Kohli served as the captain of his squad. When the U-15 team competed in the finals of the national tournament, Yadav and Ishant Sharma formed a match-winning connection that helped them win the title.

He left school when he was in the tenth grade to pursue a career in sports, and he finally became a member of the Delhi cricket team for the under-17 and under-19 age groups. In the same year, Tejashwi was also included on the list of players who were considered for the standby position for the Indian national cricket team that won the World Cup for the under-19 age group. In 2008, the Delhi Daredevils announced that they had signed Yadav to a contract for their Indian Premier League club.

During the whole period between 2008 and 2012, he stayed on the team’s reserve bench throughout the entire season. He was also chosen to play for the Jharkhand cricket team in 2009, which competed at the state level. First, he participated in four Twenty20 matches, largely as a bowler, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This was his first experience playing cricket at the professional level. Immediately after that, he received a summons to play a first-class match against the Vidarbha cricket team at Dhanbad.

The number seven batter was the one who was fielded, and he was bowled in five overs. His side lost the first match, but they won the second one, and Yadav grabbed a wicket against Tripura. In 2010, he made his debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is a one-day competition. He played two matches against the Odisha cricket team and the Tripura cricket team, respectively.

Yadav has already called it quits in his cricket career by the year 2013. According to an article that was published in the Business Standard in 2013, “the stupefying talent soon gave way to a spate of middling performances, ensuring that his cricketing career never fully took off.” He had the potential to be successful in his cricket career, but the lack of sufficient facilities for athletes in Bihar prevented him from achieving that potential. His team coaches believe that he could be successful.

Yadav, along with the majority of other Bihari players, had moved to another state since the state did not have a domestic cricket team. This was because the state made it a priority to play matches with local players. While Yadav was still pursuing his profession as a cricket player, he began campaigning for the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the year 2010. After he entered politics, he was praised for effectively modernizing campaigning techniques and establishing internet outreach for the party. This was a significant accomplishment.

According to those who are within the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Yadav was also successful in persuading Lalu Prasad to form a coalition with Nitish Kumar and his Janata Dal (United) in the aftermath of the bad performance of both parties in the general election that took place in Bihar in 2014. After some time, the Janata Dal (United), the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and the Indian National Congress came together to create an alliance.

Yadav, who was running as a candidate for the Mahagathbandan (Grand Alliance) in the election for the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2015, triumphed in the election to become the representative of the Raghopur seat. Yadav was selected as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and got the portfolios of public works, forests, and environment in the fifth cabinet of Nitish Kumar, according to the results of the election, which also resulted in an overwhelming majority for the coalition in the parliament. In 2017, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched an investigation into money laundering in a corruption case that occurred in 2004 involving the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.

The case targets Yadav and other members of his family, including his parents Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav. As a result of this, Nitish Kumar decided to withdraw the Janata Dal (United) from the coalition and instead establish a new government with the Bharatiya Janata Party. After that, Yadav became the head of the opposition since the Rashtriya Janata Dal was the party that had the most seats in the state assembly.

Yadav, in reaction to the complaint that was filed against him, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of exploiting the machinery of the government to carry out political plans. Because the accusation was made against him when he was just 14 years old, the Delhi High Court granted him relief in the case in 2018. He maintained that he could not have had a part in the incident since the claim was made against him at that time. By the time March 2018 rolled around, Yadav had established himself as the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s actual leader.

As soon as he was appointed, he made an official apology to the people of Bihar, apologizing for any “lapses and mistakes” that may have been perpetrated by the party during its time in the state government. He also said that he was ignorant of the fact that the party members were too young at the time. Later on, when Yadav was serving as the leader of the opposition, he got engaged in the process of organizing food assistance initiatives in the wake of the floods that occurred in Bihar in 2019.

During the elections for the Bihar Legislative Assembly in the year 2020, Yadav assumed the role of Chief Ministerial candidate for the Mahagathbandhan, leading the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidates. After gaining a total of 110 seats out of 243, the coalition emerged victorious, with the RJD securing 75 seats, therefore maintaining its position as the single biggest political party in Bihar. The coalition was unable to establish the government since the needed majority was 122.
