Vinod Dua is an Indian journalist. He worked for NDTV India and Doordarshan. In 1996, he became the first electronic media journalist to win the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award. He was received Padma Shri for Journalism by the Government of India in 2008.

Vinod Dua Biography:

Vinod Dua was born on March 11, 1954, in New Delhi, India. His early education was in the refugee colonies of Delhi. His family emigrated from Dera Ismail Khan after the independence of India in 1947. In his school and college days, Vinod took part in a variety of singing and debate competitions, and he also did theatre until the mid-1980s. He was a member of the street theatre community, Theater Union, which used to establish and perform plays against social issues such as Dowry.

He graduated from Hans Raj College with a degree in English literature. He graduated from the University of Delhi with a master’s degree in literature. Vinod made his first television appearance in Yuva Manch in November 1974.

Yuv Jan, a youth show for Raipur, Muzaffarpur, and Jaipur for the Satellite Instructional Telecast Experiment (SITE), was anchored by Vinod in 1975. The same year, Jawan Tarang, a youth program broadcast on the newly commissioned Amritsar TV, started to be anchored. He continued his work until 1980.


In 1981, he began to anchor Aap Ke Liye, a family magazine on Sunday mornings, which he continued to do until 1984. Vinod, along with Prannoy Roy, co-anchored the Doordarshan election review in 1984. This gave him a boost in his career as he was offered the chance to host an election analysis program for several other television channels.

He also anchored Janvani, a show where common citizens had the opportunity to challenge ministers directly, in 1985. The show was the first of its kind. Vinod joined TV Today, an Indian Today Group company, as its chief producer in 1987.

In 1988, The Communication Group founded its production company, The Communication Group, to produce shows focused on current affairs, budget analysis, and documentary films. In 1992, Vinod anchored the show Chakravyuha, the Zee TV channel. Between 1992 and 1996, he was the founder of the weekly news magazine, Parakh, which was broadcast on Doordarshan.

In 1996, he became the first electronic media journalist to win the prestigious BD Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism. Vinod was the anchor for the show ‘Tasveer-e-Hind, broadcast on Doordarshan’s cerebral station, DD3 Media. Between 1997 and 1998 he worked as an anchor for the station. In March 1998, Vinod starred at the Sony Entertainment Channel show, ‘Chunav Chunauti.

From 2000 to 2003, he was related to Sahara TV, for which he used to anchor Pratidin. Vinod used to host the NDTV India show.

He began anchoring Jan Gan Man Ki Baat to The Hindi Wire. The show is a 10-minute news program broadcast on The Wire’s website, where Narendra Modi also criticized the government, but with the necessary facts and figures.


Controversy:

In October 2017, Vinod Dua had lashed out at the actor Akshay Kumar for passing a lewd remark on his daughter, Mallika Dua, while shooting a comedy episode, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. A year later, in October 2018, India’s award-winning film director Nishtha Jain, famous for Gulabi Gang, published a long Facebook post alleging that Vinod Dua was harassed and sexually assaulted.
