Zakir Khan was not good in his childhood education. He wanted to become a radio producer after completing his schooling. In 2008, he studied radio programming in ARSL from his native Indore in Delhi. He relocated to Jaipur after a year in Delhi and battled a lot here. Sometimes he had to forego his lunch or dinner since he didn’t have money. He weathered several storms in a strong determination, like a lonely fisherman in a small boat in a turbulent sea.

He had various bizarre jobs before graduating like many self-made celebrities. Lady luck finally smiled upon him and richly rewarded his efforts. The aspiring comic won the ‘India’s Best Stand-Up Comedian’ Comedy Central competition in 2012. Shortly afterwards, his popularity grew by leaps and limits. In 2015, renowned comedians Tanmay Bhat and Gursimran Khamba approached him to create and co-host ‘On Air with AIB.’ Since then, nobody has looked back on him. He has performed countless stand-up comedy gigs in India and elsewhere.

Zakir Khan was born in the poor middle class family of Indore on 20 August 1987. (Madhya Pradesh).  Zakir’s two brothers, Zeeshan Khan and Arbaaz Khan, love him very much. Zeeshan is the next vocalist. In his infancy, Zakir Khan often had to shift schools due to bullying. In an interview with ‘Chaipaani’ he recalled that his classmates had tormented him for his non-so-attractive look and black teint. He still remembers today that his so-called ‘unattractive’ looks to give himself an impetus to succeed solely because of his talent and dedication.

Zakir respects his father for his assistance throughout his life and especially during his periods of need. Under the Jaipur Gharana he was a vocalist and an eminent player of classical musical instruments. Another outstanding musician is his father Ismail Khan. At the age of seven, Zakir Khan started receiving his sitar lessons from his father and grandfather. Later he obtained a diploma in sitar playing.

But he didn’t finish his studies at St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Indore. From his boyhood on, he engaged enthusiastically in many theatre productions and theatrical acts.

His hobbies include singing, composing songs and writing poems in Urdu. His most admired poet is Mirza Ghalib and Nawazuddin Siddiqi is the most esteemed actor. He personally feels that Kapil Sharma’s comic presentations lack the dynamism that Indian contemporary comedy demands. Zakir considers stand-up comedy as an art form to deal with social, moral and political dichotomies in India.
