Ajit Doval is the current National Security Adviser (NSA) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is the 5th person to hold this position. He just turned 77, and many affectionately refer to him as “The James Bond of India.” Take a glimpse at the life of a former officer in the IPS cadre and see how they spent their time. A Garhwali family raised Ajit Kumar Doval, born on January 20, 1945, in the hamlet of Ghiri Banelsyun in Pauri Garhwal in the state of Garhwal. His father was an officer in the Indian Army and had the rank of Major G. N. Doval.

Ajit Doval had his education at what is now known as Ajmer Military Academy, which was once known as King George’s Royal Indian Military School and is located in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He received his Master of Economics degree from Agra University in 1967 and graduated with that degree. Doval was presented with an honorary doctorate in science from Agra University in December 2017. In May 2018, Kumaun University presented him with an honorary degree in Literature for his lifetime achievements.

In November 2018, Amity University earned him an honorary doctorate in Philosophy. Ajit Doval joined the Indian Police Service in 1968 and was actively engaged in the anti-insurgency operations that were taking place in the states of Punjab and Mizoram. He was known as the “Indian James Bond” by the media. Doval worked in Thalassery from the second to the ninth of January in 1972. He was assigned to do so by the Home Minister at the time, K. Karunakaran, to reestablish peace and order in the region.

On December 28, 1971, a riot broke out in Thalassery, sparked by allegations that the RSS had targeted Muslims and the mosques in the area. In 1999, Ajit Doval was one of three people who negotiated the release of passengers aboard IC-814 in Kandahar. These negotiations took place. During 1971 and 1999, he successfully resolved 15 hijackings of Indian Airlines planes.

Ajit Doval oversaw the Intelligence Bureau (IB) operations division for over a decade. In addition, he was the founding Chairman of the MAC (Multi-Agency Circle) and the JTFI (Joint Task Force on Intelligence). During the uprising led by the Mizo National Front, Ajit Doval successfully won over six of Laldenga’s seven leaders. Doval lived in hiding for several years in the Arakan region of Burma, which is located inside Chinese borders.

After that, he moved on to Sikkim, where he was a significant player in the process by which the state became a part of India. He also saved Romanian Ambassador Liviu Radu. Doval gathered crucial intelligence within the Golden Temple in Amritsar in 1988 in preparation for Operation Black Thunder. Ajit Doval stepped down as Director of the Intelligence Bureau in January 2005. (IB). He was appointed to his position as the founding Director of the Vivekananda International Foundation in December 2009.

Doval has actively written editorial pieces for leading newspapers and journals and delivered lectures on national security in India, its challenges, and India’s foreign policies, both in India and abroad. These lectures have been given at government and non-government institutions, think tanks, and other venues. Ajit Doval contributed to writing two papers titled “Indian Black Money Overseas in Hidden Banks and Tax Havens” in 2009 and 2011. These reports were published in 2009 and 2011.

Doval was elected India’s sixth National Security Adviser on May 30, 2014, after he resigned from the post. In July 2014, he was responsible for ensuring the safe repatriation of 46 Indian nurses who had been held captive in a hospital in Tikrit, Iraq. Ajit Doval boarded a flight to Iraq on a top-secret assignment on June 25, 2014, and while there, he spoke with high-level officials from the Iraqi government. During the meeting with Doval on July 5, ISIL terrorists turned all Indian nurses to the Kurdish authorities in Erbil.

The nurses were transported to Kochi, India, using a plane provided by Air India under exceptional circumstances. According to Indian government sources, Ajit Doval and Army Commander General Dalbir Singh Suhag hatched a plot to launch a military operation across the border in Myanmar against members of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K). The Indian side asserts that the process was successful and that between 20 and 38 separatists were killed due to India’s operation.

The government of Myanmar, on the other hand, refuted such assertions and said that the Indian operation against the NSCN-K took occurred wholly inside Indian territory. In addition to this, the NSCN-K disputed India’s claim to the environment. His popularity might be attributed to the paradigm change that he brought about in the Indian national security strategy regarding Pakistan. The defensive system of the Indian National Security policy was replaced by the defensive, offensive scheme and then by the double squeeze strategy.

According to several sources, he was the mastermind behind the Indian strikes in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir in 2016. Through his diplomatic efforts, together with those of the then-Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and the Indian Ambassador to China Vijay Keshav Gokhale, he successfully resolved the Doklam Standoff. Ajit Doval was given the position of Chairman of the SPG in October of 2018, according to the official announcement (Strategic Policy Group).

On February 27, 2019, tensions rose between India and Pakistan as a result of an airstrike carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF) inside of Pakistan, followed by an airstrike carried out by the Pakistani Border Force (PDF) inside of India in retaliation, and the subsequent capture of an Indian pilot by the Pakistani military. The Pakistani army decided to release the pilot as a sign of goodwill and to reduce the hostility between the two nations.

Ajit Doval reportedly discussed with the Secretary of State and the National Security Adviser of the United States of America when Pakistan detained the Indian pilot. These discussions aimed to obtain the release of the Indian pilot that Pakistan was holding. Ajit Doval was reappointed to his position as National Security Advisor (NSA) on June 3, 2019, for the subsequent five years. A group of 22 rebels operating in the Northeastern states of India was delivered to the government of India by the military of Myanmar on the 15th of May 2020 on a specialized jet.

At the celebrations for the agency’s diamond jubilee, held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India could not advance without professional and efficient institutions, such as the CBI. He added that the agency’s primary responsibility is to rid the country of corruption. In addition, he urged the agents of the CBI not to show mercy to anybody who was shown guilty of a crime. He also emphasized the need for investigating agencies to cooperate rather than remain in their separate silos.

In the immediate aftermath of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval’s visit to the illustrious Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the presence of a drone was identified in the surrounding region. On Saturday evening, Doval paid a visit to the temple. After Doval’s return at 9 p.m., the drone was discovered at around 10.30 p.m. After conducting an investigation, the police detained the young person who was flying the drone.

In the vicinity of the Mahakaleshwar temple, it is against the law to operate a drone without first receiving authorization. Because of this, the authorities in UP filed a complaint against the young man, who is 30 years old. The drone that he was operating was also taken away from him. Meanwhile, Doval returned from the temple in the evening and returned to the temple the following day. After attending the joint commanders’ meeting in Bhopal, Doval traveled to the shrine to pay his respects.

In the city of Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh, just after the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval had finished his visit to the holy site, a drone flew over the Mahakal area, which is home to the world-famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, according to a senior police official who spoke on Monday. When questioned, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abhishek Anand refuted rumors that an unmanned aerial vehicle flew over the expansive region on Saturday night while Doval was inside the temple. The reports originated from certain quarters.

According to him, the NSA departed the temple at around 9 p.m., and the drone was noticed at approximately 10.30 o’clock that evening. The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) said that as the police became aware of the drone in the Mahakal region, where it is forbidden to operate such unmanned aerial devices without authorization, they sprung into action and filed a complaint on Sunday about the incident. We have taken custody of the drone and questioned the suspect, who is around 30 years old and originates from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

As he did not have authorization, we detained him by section 188 of the Indian Penal Code,” he said. According to Sachin Sharma, the superintendent of police in Ujjain, who spoke with PTI, the accused person was charged with defying a government order prohibiting flying drones in a restricted area. Doval had gone to the temple to pray on Saturday night and again in the early morning hours of Sunday. After attending the Combined Commanders’ Conference in Bhopal, the NSA arrived in Ujjain late on Saturday. Bhopal is the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Ajit Doval, India’s National Security Adviser, met with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Tuesday. The Bhutanese monarch has been in India for two days as part of a two-day visit that began on April 3. The King of Bhutan was greeted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, S. Jaishankar, upon his arrival in the nation on Monday, and the minister subsequently paid him a visit in the evening. Jaishankar observed that he “truly appreciates” the Bhutan King’s aim for deepening the one-of-a-kind cooperation with India as a guest of President Draupadi Murmu, the King of Bhutan, is now traveling around India.

Later today, he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visit President Murmu. In addition to other high-ranking officials, Bhutan’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Tandi Dorji, is traveling with the King. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), the visit of King Wangchuck is in line with the time-honored tradition of frequent high-level interactions between the two countries. Ajit Doval, the national security advisor, seemed to have China on his mind as he presided over the 18th meeting of the secretaries of security councils of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member nations. He made three general comments that had a solid Chinese overtone.

Doval did not specifically mention China when he made the following statement: “Calls upon member states to have mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity of states and inviolability of state borders, non-use of force or threat of its use in international relations, and seeking no unilateral military superiority in adjacent areas.” Although if this is true for both China and Pakistan, the allusion to “unilateral military supremacy in nearby territories” seemed to be aimed more at China’s capital of Beijing.
