I.M Chang-Kyun is known by the stage name I.M or Changkyun. He is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from South Korea. In 2015, he made his debut in the South Korean group Monsta X via Mnet’s survival show No. Mercy. In 2021, he produced his solo debut with the EP Duality.

I.M Biography:

I.M was born on January 26, 1996, in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, though he claims to be from Gwangju’s Gwangsan-gu. Because of his father’s work as a scientist, he spent most of his early years living abroad, including in Boston, Massachusetts, where he learned English while his father worked at Harvard University.

I.M was a member of the Special K Entertainment boy band Nu’bility in 2013 and 2014. Despite holding many events and performances, the group never officially debuted.

I.M joined Mnet’s survival show No. Mercy late, becoming the thirteenth competitor. Despite his late entry, he was one of seven contestants chosen to make their debut in Starship Entertainment’s new hip-hop boy group, Monsta X.

I.M Career:

I.M made his Monsta X debut in 2015 with the release of their first EP, Trespass, on which he has five writing credits.

I.M released his first mixtape, “Who Am I?” featuring Yeseo, on Starship Entertainment’s YouTube channel in 2016.

I.M released his mixtape in 2019 with the lead single “Horizon,” a joint project with the American artist ELHAE. As the single’s B-side, he released “Scent.”

In February 2019, I.M has written and produced an audiobook Oscar Wilde’s The Happy Prince, which was released on Naver’s Audio clip. Later that year, he co-narrated two audiobooks with groupmate Shownu, which were also released on Naver’s Audio clip.

I.M teamed up with ELHAE once more in 2020, releasing the single “Need to Know.” On Talk Talk Information Brunch, I.M made his first solo appearance on a talk show.

I.M declared in January 2021 that the solo work he had been working on since 2020 would be released as his first solo album, with a release date later in 2021. His first official solo song release, rather than a mixtape, was an extended play titled Duality, which was released on February 19, with the lead single “God Damn.”

I.M was admired for displaying a broader range of skill with the EP, which featured a noticeable difference in rap style from his work in Monsta X as well as showcasing his abilities as a vocalist, songwriter, and composer. All five songs from the album recorded on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart for the week of March 6, giving him a fifth of the chart’s positions that week.
