Yoo Ki-Hyun is better known by the stage name Kihyun. He is a singer from South Korea. He is a member of the South Korean boy band Monsta X, which premiered in 2015 on Mnet’s survival show No. Mercy under Starship Entertainment. Kihyun has released songs for several original soundtracks in addition to his work in Monsta X.

2014–2015: Debut and career beginnings:

Kihyun appeared on Mnet’s survival show No. Mercy in December 2014. Monsta X, a hip-hop idol group formed with six other trainees from the show, premiered under Starship Entertainment on May 14, 2015, with the EP Trespass. He also released two collaboration tracks through the survival show, “Pillow” with Sistar’s Soyou and Giriboy on January 14, 2015, and “0 (Young)” with Giriboy, Mad Clown, Jooyoung, and a few other remaining trainees in No. Mercy on February 4, 2015.

Kihyun and fellow Monsta X member Jooheon tracked “Attractive Woman,” a television soundtrack for KBS2’s Orange Marmalade, in May 2015. In addition, in October, he released his first solo original soundtrack, “One More Step,” for the MBC television drama She Was Pretty.

2016–present: Original soundtracks:

On January 3, 2016, Kihyun appeared as a contestant on King of Mask Singer under the name “Tell Them I’m the Dragon King.” He defeated Apink’s Namjoo, also known as “Good Daughter Shim Cheong,” in the first round. He was defeated by Lim Jeong-hee, also known as “Rolled Good Fortune,” in the second round of the competition by a margin of three votes.

Kihyun performed an acoustic version of “The Tiger Moth” for the soundtrack of MBC’s drama Shopping King Louie, which debuted on October 27, 2016.

In June 2017, SBS’s drama Suspicious Partner received an original soundtrack titled “I’ve Got A Feeling.”

He tracked “Can’t Breathe” for MBC’s Partners for Justice with fellow Monsta X member Jooheon in May 2018, and “Love Virus” for tvN’s drama What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim with WJSN’s Seol in June.

Kihyun contributed to the writing and production of three songs on Monsta X’s album All About Luv: “Who Do U Love?” (and its remix by will.i.am), “Middle of the Night,” and “Beside U.”

Kihyun released “Again Spring,” a song for the soundtrack of KBS2’s Welcome, in April 2020, and “To Be With You,” a song for KBS2’s Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, in October. Kihyun had a solo stage for M Studio on M Countdown in October, where he performed a cover of Christopher’s song “Bad.”

In January 2021, he donated 10 million won to Good Neighbors, a South Korean charity that assists low-income families.

Kihyun released “O.M.O.M.” for the soundtrack of the drama Replay in February. Kihyun was admired for his work on the drama, particularly for his ability to express the “sweetness and softness” that the drama required.
