KT Jaleel is the Minister for Local Administration in the Kerala Government. He is an Indian politician, social activist, and author from Kerala, India. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Malappuram district’s Thavanoor constituency. He began his political career as a member of the Indian Union Muslim League, but later left the party after complaining against its leadership.

Jaleel was born in Tirur, Malappuram, on May 30, 1967. His father’s name is Kunhi Muhammed and his mother’s name is Parayil Nafeesa. His wife, M.P. Fathima Kutty, is the principal of Valanchery HSS, and his children are Asma Beevi, Muhammed Farooq, and Sumayya Beegum.

He has also written many publications in periodicals and journals, including the novel “Oru Kodumkattaya Janapaksha Rashtreeyam.”

He attended GUPS-Painkanur, Valanchery, and GUPS-Velimukku for his primary education. His secondary education was at Kuttippuram Government Higher Secondary School. He received his pre-degree from Chenamangalur’s Islahiya College and his graduation and post-graduation from Tirurangadi’s Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College (PSMO College). For the subject “Role of Variyam Kunjahammed haji and Ali Musliyar in the Malabar Rebellion of 1921,” he received an M.Phil. from the University of Calicut and a Ph.D. from Kerala University, Thiruvananthapuram. He is currently an Associate Professor of History at Tirurangadi’s Pocker Sahib Memorial Orphanage College (PSMO) and lives in Valanchery.

He was a former member of the now-banned Students Islamic Movement of India, an Islamist group (SIMI). Later, he joined the Muslim Students Federation – MSF, the Indian Union Muslim League’s student wing. He was kicked out of IUML’s youth wing after a disagreement with the leadership. After that, he ran for office on his own, with the blessing of the LDF.

In 2006, he was elected as an MLA for the first time, beating then-IUML General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty in the Kuttippuram constituency as an LDF-backed Independent candidate. He was elected to the Thavanoor constituency in 2011, beating V. V. Prakash of the Indian National Congress by 6,854 votes. He was re-elected to Thavanoor in 2016 with a majority of 17,064, defeating P. The Indian National Congress’s Ifthiquarudheen.

After P. accused Jaleel of nepotism, he came under fire. K. Firos of the Indian Union Muslim League, who was named general manager of the Kerala State Minorities Development Finance Corporation by his cousin (KSMDFC). On July 11, 2019, the Kerala High Court rejected the appeal, criticizing the political motives behind Firos’ petition. Jaleel was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the 2020 Kerala gold smuggling case (NIA). He denied any involvement, claiming that his contact with one of the suspects, Swapna, was for the sake of a charitable project proposed by the UAE Consulate General.
