Partha Chatterjee is a West Bengal politician in India. He is a member of the Trinamool Congress. He is now the West Bengal Government’s Minister of Education and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. He also acts as the General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.

Partha Chatterjee was born on October 6, 1952, in Calcutta. His Father’s name is Late B.K. Chatterjee and mother’s name is known. Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, was his alma mater, followed by Asutosh College, where he studied economics. He has a master’s degree in business management under his belt.


Andrew Yule hired Partha Chatterjee as an HR professional. In 2001, he was elected as an MLA from Behala Paschim, and in 2006, he was re-elected from the same seat. In 2011, he prevailed with a 59,021 vote difference. From 2006 to 2011, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

On the 20th of May 2011, he was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with the portfolios of Commerce and Manufacturing, Public Enterprises, Information Technology, and Parliamentary Affairs.

In 2011, he was nominated as the House’s deputy chairman. Following the 2016 Assembly election, he was appointed Minister-in-Charge of the West Bengal Government’s Higher Education and School Education Department.

Partha Chatterjee was a key figure in the founding of the Trinamool Congress and is considered one of the party’s core members. In addition, he serves as the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. Along with Mamata Banerjee, he was a key figure in the Singur and Nandigram revolutions. He founded the newspaper Jago Bangla, which is regarded as the Trinamool Party’s mouthpiece. This was achieved in order to counter Ganashakti, a CPM mouthpiece.
