His father worked for a mass spectrometer firm, and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. His uncle is a Catholic priest in Cincinnati, and he was raised Catholic. He went to Bishop DuBourg High School, which is a Catholic high school. Dorsey used to pose as a modelling model when he was younger. Dorsey had shown an interest in dispatch routing by the age of 14.

Dorsey started at the University of Missouri–Rolla in 1995 and stayed for two years before moving to New York University in 1997, where he dropped out two years later, one semester shy of graduation. He reached out to ‘Odeo,’ a directory and search destination website that was looking for text messaging services. He drew the attention of ‘Odeo’ co-founder Evan Williams and Biz Stone, one of the company’s executives.
Dorsey, along with Biz Stone, Evan Williams, and a few other members of ‘Odeo,’ founded ‘Obvious Corporation,’ which later became Twitter, in October 2006. Dorsey built a quick platform in two weeks where people could send short messages called “tweets” of 140 characters or fewer. He was the CEO of Twitter at first. In 2008, Williams was named CEO, while Dorsey was named chairman of the board. The business expanded quickly. Twitter users sent 50 million tweets a day within five years of its launch.
Dorsey founded Square Inc. with fellow entrepreneur and computer science developer Jim McKelvey in 2009. Originally founded as a mobile payments provider, ‘Square’ has since expanded to provide financial and merchant services. He serves as the CEO of this fast-growing firm. Dorsey was named a founding chairman of the board of directors of ‘The Walt Disney Company’ on December 24, 2013.
