Walker gained international recognition in 2015 after releasing the single “Faded,” which was certified platinum in 14 countries. DJ Mag ranked him as the 26th best DJ in the world in 2020. In 2018, he released his first studio album, Different World. Alan Walker is the son of Norwegian Hilde Omdal Walker and Englishman Philip Alan Walker.
On the basis of his paternal heritage, he was born with dual citizenship in Norway and the United Kingdom. He moved to Bergen, Norway, with his parents and siblings when he was two years old. Walker grew up with two siblings: Camilla, an older sister born in England, and Andreas, a younger brother born in Norway.
Walker developed an early interest in computers as a result of growing up in the digital age, which later developed into a passion for programming and graphic design. He had no musical experience at all, but he later taught himself by watching music production videos on YouTube.
Beginnings and breakthroughs in my career from 2012 to 2016. Walker contacted Italian DJ David Whistle (also known as DJ Ness) in 2012 after hearing one of his songs and wanted to learn more about how he made his music. EDM producers K-391 and Ahrix, as well as film composers Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky, influenced him. Using FL Studio on his laptop, he began creating music. He started pursuing his music production career in July 2012, with the support and feedback of his online fans, and eventually began uploading his music to YouTube and SoundCloud. Until signing a record deal and releasing his debut single in 2014, he was best known as DJ Walkzz, a bedroom producer.
On August 17, 2014, Walker released the song “Fade.” The track gained popularity after it was re-released on November 19, 2014, by the record label NoCopyrightSounds. The track was influenced by K-391 and Ahrix, whose songs were also picked up by the record label, according to Walker. The song has over 400 million views on YouTube, 115 million Spotify plays, and 41 million SoundCloud streams. In 2015, the tracks “Spectre” and “Power” were released.
Walker signed with Sony Music Sweden’s MER Musikk label and released “Faded,” a remastered vocal version of “Fade.” It was released on December 8, 2015, and starred Iselin Solheim, an uncredited Naustdal pop singer. The music video has over 2.6 billion views and 18 million likes on YouTube, making it one of the top ten most popular YouTube videos. It has earned over 1.1 billion Spotify plays and is one of the Top 10 Most Shazamed songs of 2016. Tisto, Dash Berlin, and Hardwell all contributed official remixes to the song. He later released an acoustic “restrung” version of the song that removed all of the EDM elements.
Walker dropped out of high school in January to pursue a career in music.Walker made his performance debut at the Winter X Games in Oslo on February 27th, where he performed 15 songs, including “Faded” with Iselin Solheim.Walker had written 30 to 40 songs by March, but “Faded” is his first single with Sony Music Sweden, and the first to chart internationally.
