Anand was born on May 1, 1955 in Mumbai. Anand’s father is a well-known industrialist, always emphasized the importance of using businesses to benefit society. He started his journey with the Mahindra Group as an executive assistant to the Finance Director of Mahindra Ugine Steel Company after receiving his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981. Mahindra saw the outstanding procurement of Ssangyong Motors, Reva Electric Car Company, Satyam Computer Services and several others under his leadership. He was appointed Chairman of the Mahindra Group in August 2012. He founded Project Nanhi Kali In 1996 to provide financial and academic support to underprivileged girls across India. He has also granted to the growth of the humanities. He contributed $10million to support the Harvard Humanities Center in honor of his mother in November 2010.
He has an intense passion for film making and visual arts. These are the subjects he pursued as an undergraduate at Harvard College’s film studies program. He is also a proficient photographer and enjoys listening to the blues. He frequently shares his views and ideas on the Indian economy, viable urbanization and business. He has also devoted to the book ‘Re-imagining India’ published by Mckinsey and Company. He has regularly been noted as one of the authoritative business leaders on Twitter.
